3 Million in Coins-Brinks Truck Crash--Using Magnet to Clean Up

Sven

Just the other day north of where I live there was a crash involving a Brinks Truck.
$3 million in Loonies and Toonies spilled over the highway.

They are coming in to pick them all up with an Industrial magnet.
I got mine---LOL

The problem with iron core coins is that iron disc will typically knock them out. How do you canucks find those coins when detecting? Are you using all metal to hunt for them?

Trade secret finding modern Canadian clad coins, they are all nickel plated steel. Have no problem finding them. There's a learning curve. Some detectors have problems, some don't.
Tesoros are good. Metered detectors have problems locking on, the signals bounce. This is where you need to learn your detector. Lying flat or on edge is another learning curve. Bet most folks with multi tone ID metered machines missed a boat load of coins on edge. They fall into the lower iron range. You tend to lose dimes first if you set your disc too high past foil.

I do use all metal mode and check with disc when running a non metered machine like the Tesoro Eldorado. The best multi tone metered machine I used for CA coins was the Fisher ID Edge.
Ended up selling it to fund my PI project over the winter, should have kept it. So I am now trying a Fisher F5 as it is similar in many regards to the Edge. So for any folks coming up from the US to detect for the first time, don't be surprised if you don't find much in the way of modern claddage.

Well, now I know why I found so many coins on the beaches in Grand Cayman. They are nickel plated iron. My PI picked them up just fine, but my Excalibur knocks them out.

Clean up completed, security etc has left the crash site.
$900,000 still missing, could be anywhere within 1/4 mile of crash impact, in the creek, dtiches etc. Could still be rolled in plastic wrappers........snow still on the ground. If surrounding property is not Crown land, I expect to see no trespass signs posted shortly.

The impact of that crash must have sent coins flying in the air some good distance.
Would be nice to hunt that area likely won't need a detector, should be good for eyeball finds-- lol
