Congratulations on the IH's Terry. I did manage to get out yesterday afternoon and snagged an IH as well. 1892 I think was mine. Only coin I got, lost track of the shotgun headstamps I dug in 3 hours. Keep thinking someday one of those headstamps will be a gold coin.

Thanks for the pictures bud!

G4er,

The soil where I do the bulk of my detecting is pretty kind to copper, but over the years I've accumulated a bunch of crusties. Last year during a downtown street tear out I was finding a dozen IHs a day, but the majority were in tough shape from a century under concrete. I have a variable voltage, variable current power supply that I am going to try do some experimenting with electrolysis, but suspect that there is no good cure for the crusties. Will post my findings.

Chris

That 79 is sweet.

Congrats on the Indian Heads Terry. Your 1879 I would like to find one in that condition someday.

Nice finds I just started back in detecting after 30 yrs. never thought about farm fields. So after reading your post I decided to give it a try in my bean field. Stubble is up 2-3 in. So got tractor out with box grader cut a swath about 30 by 200 and found 73 Nichel, 1 66 dime 2 wheat cents 1 ind penny. Can't read dates. 2 bullets 1 silver plated spoon and an assortment of misc. I really like this etrac have only had it about a month and found 1 Franklin ,2 mercs, 2 roosivelts, 2 silver rings and a buffalo nichel I believe to be 1917 all from yards. The bean field had been hay for more than 60 yrs. so guess I may have lost some coins while putting up hay. Enjoy reading All the posts Gary

Gary I don't just blindly hunt any field. I have maps from the 1800s that tells where old houses were at
