3 kHz coil

Piero franchi

New member
Hi, I own a x-Terra 70, I have the standard 7.5 con coil, plus my beloved 17.5 dd round coil.
I bought a second hand 3 kHz con round coil.

I done a few in air tests with the 3 kHz and the 17.5.

I was SO shocked, I packed it up and put it away!!!!!!!!!!!

What is this coil ment for????

I had a large silver coin, and a half hammered coin, with both the coins, the 3 kHz lost well over an inch!!!!

So I tried some thing Else, and then some thing else and so on. each time, the 3 kHz coil lost out!!!!!!!!!

Is the 3 kHz coil THAT bad, or is the 17.5 dd round, that GOOD

Hi Piero,

Switching coils on the 70 changes many internal settings. One of them being gain I believe. Try the air tests again on the larger silver coin (or both coins) using the Beach GB mode and see what results you get. I know that "in ground results" with the Beach GB mode are pretty incredible when using the 3 Khz coil.

FYI: In some soils (not on salt beaches) Beach GB mode may run out of range. What I mean is the GB number may read 1 or 0. If you see that happening at a site manually set the GB number to 27.
