3 KHZ coil

JHM

Member
I just got a 3 KHZ coil for my 705. If I raise the sensitivity above 20, it chirps constantly. I tried noise cancel and GB, neither seemed to help. Is normal or do I have a bad one? All my other coils are stable with sensitivity set all the way to 30.

Of all the coils the 3kHz will be the most sensitive to 60Hz interference as it is much closer harmonically than the higher frequency coils. Therefore make sure that you are outside and away from any overhead or buried utilities before trying to make a comparison.

here in where I live if I turn mine up that high it does the same. I run my sen at about 16 and and still get pretty good depth.

I moved farther away from the power line and it smoothed out. I think you called it. It doesn't look like something I would choose to hunt in town with. With time I may learn to like it.

I don't know if a different NC channel will eliminate the problem at this site. Sometimes transmission lines have just too much induction to overcome. But regardless, it is important to reset to the proper NC channel when you switch coils. Different frequencies, just as different coil size and shape, will effect the detector's Noise Cancel effectiveness. JMHO HH Randy

I would like to thank everyone who tried to help me with this issue. I had issues with Minelab service once. But I have to say they have got their act togather now and deserve a pat on the back. I sent the coil in and less than 3 weeks a new coil was delivered to my door. It's smooth as silk. It's one week delivery from my location to Las Vegas. The must have shipped the new coil within a day or so after recieving the bad one.
