3 Days detecting, first, last and today...

Well you are almost there. What the heck is that cylindrical thingy?

It looks like a replacement valve for the bung of a barrel. Perhaps after the barrel was opened this was inserted as a tapping mechanism to dispense beer into pitchers and prevent the natural carbonation from escaping from the barrel before it was all used up. Flat beer was NEVER one of my favorites.

Coo! Do you think it is a miners lamp or could it be military? The fact that it might only cast light in one direction suggests possibly the latter.

I did a quick google search and did not come up with one like it but I suspect you are right about what it is. They where still used by cavers in recent times, an old buddy of mine used one.

PS: I have got to hand it to you you handle the cold better than I, then again it has been in the -20s here for what seems like ever. (Calgary)

I found the lamp close to a German WWII defensive position so it is probably WWII era. Yesterday I realized it is game over, even the forest is frozen hard now. Hoping to get a mid winter thaw sometime, LOL, I hope! HH, Mike
