3 days 23 hours and 10 minutes .....

..... until I leave for the UK at 4:00 on Monday.

The perky Nancy said, based on today's news about the new airline "issues" for UK / USA flights, I should buy a whole bunch of insurance. I told her I had bad news and good news, what do you want to hear first.

She said the bad news .... Well, if I get zapped in a terrorist attack buying extra flight insurance won't help as they won't pay.

The good news is that my Florida car insurance policy covers my rental car in the UK if I should happen to destroy it by forgetting to drive on the wrong side of the road.

Since the airlines won't allow ANY carry-on's, I might not take the laptop to keep you guys posted. If I can fit it into one of my two suitcase's, I'll take it, if not I won't.

I'm taking a DFX, MXT, all my tectin' gear like leashe knife, bullseye, knee pads, extra batteries, walkie talkies, belt / side bag, etc., and a water machine my Brit friends wanted. Need 10 days of clean undies, 3 days of tectin' clothes (yep, it gets where you can call it over to the bedside to hop into it), tectin' hat, rain suit, shoes, beef jerky (3 varieties) and 3 days of non detecting clothes plus what I wear out and back, cell phone, camera. That fills 2 suitcases. Thank goodness I already have my "wellies" (rubber boots, green, not white) and shovel over there at my Brit buddies house.

If I can fit it in I'll pack the laptop. If not, who gives a rat's patootie?

yea Ed, I thought about you this morning when I saw the news.
hell of a world we are living in these days...

... the perky Nancy, kids, and store no charge .... or make international LD calls for about 2 cents per minute. Plus can do digital cam photo editing at night after each day's hunting. You are probably right in that I should leave it at home ... we'll see.

....travel light. Don't take anything that is gonna cause more of a hassle at the airport then you will already have to deal with.

Leave the laptop home. Take the digi camera and any serial or USB cables to connect to your friends home computer. That way you can still do your updates.

The next few weeks the airport is not gonna be an accommodating place to be.

Don't burden yourself with too much collateral stuff. Sounds like you are going to have enough stuff to carry over there already.

Have fun!!!

If you have the energy to do digital cam photo editing each night.....
Then you aren't hunting hard enough !!!

Butch has a good point... the airports are going to suck next week and that laptop is just going to be another pain for you...
Plus it's another thing you'll have that could get stolen.

Excellent points. Digital cam in suitcase is enough.

wore underwear  Hope you don't run into to much hassle on the trip considering what has happened and what happened last time you went.

.... no pending storms in the Atlantic that could slam us while I'm gone .... weather there .... they had some rain which will soften up the ground that was getting brick hard and temps will be from mid 50's at night to mid 70's during the day .... dream detecting weather.

We now have more fields lined up than we could possibly detect in a couple months, much less 8 short detecting days ... from 8 to 6. These fields have given up Bronze age through roman and Medieval and of course more modern Brit coins from the early 1700's on.

... but the UK would be the place for the best chance for it. Finding a gold Celtic stater (sp?) or later gold coin would be my dream.
