2nd time out with the XS nets a seated

hi all, this is my first post here as a minelab owner. i recently sold my gti2500 and bought an XS on ebay. i was tired of finding the least amount of oldies in my group of hunting buddies. they had ex2's and an SE.

my first time out with the xs i hit an old park. i found a merc, 18 wheats and a 1925 portugese coin--all deeper than 6".

the second time out i hit a well-pounded park that dates back to the late 1850's. with my garrett, it was tapped out. but with the Xs, it seemed brand new again! i found a '17 merc, '52 rosie, '02 IH, '89 IH and an '89 seated dime! i also got 10 wheats. i never would have found all of those oldies in that park with my garrett.

my immediate success is due to the fact that my hunting buddy let me use his spare EX2on the last four or five outings. i learned a lot from my friends regarding tones and settings. now i feel like i can hit any old park and come away with a good amount of oldies and very little clad.

thanks for reading. i look forward to reading and replying to all of your posts!

HH, Mike ps. i lost the '02 indian. it must have fallen out of my pocket at some point...

I too have owned different metal detectors and still do. Each has it's place, time and good points. But, if you're after deep old coins others have missed, you can not beat a XS or Exp. II. for a proven track record. As far as the new SE, in my mind the jury is still out on what I'm reading. Just like a model change in the auto industry, don't buy the new model until they get the bugs out, in my opinion of course. Still looking forward to my first seated. Nice finds and HH.

Very Well Done Mike! Enjoy those kind of finds while you can because after a couple years with your buddies detecting the same spots, the finds will be a lot tougher to find. Congrat's on the Seated Dime. I also converted 2 other detectorist's that I met that were using a Garrett 2500, and his friend was using another cheaper Garrett, I forget which model, but they were detecting a School and they found a couple Wheats and a No-Date Standing Liberty Quarter there with the Garrett's. Later on I went back with my Explorer XS and picked out a few Wheats and a High Grade 1919 Merc where they had detected. After showing my finds and hearing how deep I was digging, they too bought themselves the Explorer SE and they couldn't be happier. Great looking finds and Welcome to the Explorer Forum. Good Luck and HH.
