2nd Tesoro

Smudge

New member
As some of you may know, I am an avid Compadre user.

I am now lookign for my second Tesoro to compliment the Compadre, primarily because I want to ability to interchange coils.

I do not need adjustable ground balance as I live in Florida and our soil is very mild.

I am a little torn between the Silver uMax, the Cibola, and the Golden uMax.

Any thoughts from users would be appreciated.

By "beach", do you mean the wet sand or the dry sand?

If wet, how far did you have to crank down your sensitivity?

You say you don't need adjustable ground balance, but it's never a handicap. That said, I'd watch for a clean used Eldorado

Cibola works well at slatwater beaches...I've only used mine in dry sand and it got good depth.....I know a bloke who used his in the shallow water (salt) and he found coins and rings, so it works ok in the surf....just dont get the control box wet. How far you will have to "crank down the sensitivity" will depend on the amouont and type of minerals in the sand where you are hunting...which is the same for any machine.

Cibola has a different pin-out than the Umax detectors...you won't be able to swap coils. Try for a DeLeon instead.

I agree, partially, with the above posts. But do you have an ID machine? The Golden would round out your flexibility and on those days where it's awful hot or trashy, I often need a break with an ID "cruising" machine.

i use the cibola with the 3X18 coil on dry sand. it covers a great swath of sand in no time. i get a good 6" depth with it. you can swing it fast as it is lightning quick with its response. it is very light and very well balanced. in the wet sand it is not very good here in ny and nj.

Well, I got the Cibola yesterday. Now if I can just get over this stupid cold, I'll start using it.

Does anyone have any experience with the 10" elliptical coil that is available?

Is that the 10" x 5" dd eliptical coil which also suits the Lobo? If so, it is a good coil for covering the ground at the beach, but I usually stay with the 9x8 concentric on inland areas....great depth and great pinpointing.
