2nd MXT is a hot one

Last week my wife and I were on vacation about 800 mile from home and I ran accross a used MXT at a sale, it had a 4 X 6 DD shooter coil on it, but the batteries were so low, that I could not evan test it to see how well it worked, but I decided to take a chance and bought it anyway, I thought I will check it out when we get back home, it was in good condition and looked like it had not been abused.

Yesterday I took it out in my back yard, put some fresh batteries in and fired it up, WOW this thing is "HOT" I found a clean area in the yard with no targets, layed a nickel on top of the ground and put the MXT in prospect mode and it would start buzzing at the nickel at around the 12" mark, now I was using Troy Pro headphones so that might make a difference, but I was impressed. I spent about an hour trying different targets, coins, rings, and some rusty iron to test target seperation and all I can say is this MXT is ready to hunt. I have to spend the rest of this weekend getting things back in order from a 1700 mile road trip, but next weekend I am going to plug in a pair of Uniprobe headphones and turn this puppy loose on a couple of old hunting sites.

This is my second MXT, I bought one when they first came out and used it for about one year and sold it, I would rate my first one as average, this one I would rate as hot, it sounds off loud and clear, has impressive depth and a solid lock on good targets, I think I am going to keep this one.

Yes, the MXT IS hot, but I don't know why your original MXT wouldn't have been just as good. My MXT is three years old. I picked it up for $300.00 six weeks ago. I use it more now than my Ace 250. I like the MXT because of the numerical ID in Relic mode. In fact I ONLY run it in relic mode now. I push the gain up to 9 sometimes +3 if ground conditions allow. The Ace 250 bell tone is ok but it just seems that the MXT VID is more reliable.

Here are a couple of Items I picked up today at the park running the MXT in Relic Mode. I used my 5.3 coil. It gets super good depth. Usually about six inches plus.

Sometimes I'll have the gain pushed up to the max useing this same coil and get a very faint reading. I've had the depth indicator tell me a few time that I t's 12" or deeper. Because I'm in the park I try not to dig that far if there are people around. Just feel uncomfortable.

1.) A small brass pipe. I told my little grandaughter it was a miniture saxaphone! Te hee hee.
It came in on the VID as 40 to 45. Usually I get junk there but not this time.

2.) A copper lighter. I cleaned it up a bit but its not going to be lighting up anything anytime soon.
It came in on the VID as a 75. For me that usually means a penny has been found.

Nice finds there Robert, I can't wait to hit some hunting sites. The MXT is a good machine, I need to get a larger coil to add to the complete package, what size of coils are you using.

I'm useing the 5.3 most of the time. For deeper stuff the 9.5. I've been hearing that the 12" doesn't give much more in depth. Wondering if its worth the extra money.

Hi Groundshaker, yep my first MXT did have the 950 on it and that could explain some of the difference in the performance, or could have been a funny coil. I have learned in the past couple of years that coils can act up, sent a detector to Keith Wills in TX, for a performance upgrade and turned out that the coil needed to be tweaked, ole Keith fixed it up and the difference in performance was amazing. I am going to add a larger coils soon I hope and see how it does, kinda hard to explain, but it is one of those things where it just felt like it was the right machine soon as I put new batteries in it and fired it up. I picked up an old 22 riffle about 30 years ago, had the same feeling, I picked it up and drilled the bulls eye on the first round, it has been one of my favorite guns every since, this MXT feels the same way, I liked it after using it the first time, it's a keeper.
