2nd coil

Recently got my MXT & can't seem to find the thread of users favorite coil after the standard 950. Will be doing coin & jewelery hunting, beach searching this winter, & possibly some prospecting / relic hunting in ID in the spring. . Thanks

Well, a lot of us use the 6X10 and the more recent 10"D2 for our standard coils. I like the 6X10 as it slips thru moderate trash a bit better than the 9.5. I also have the 4X6 "shooter" and the 5.3. You'll see some difference in opinion on these two, but in my experience, the 4X6 is really great in heavy trash with some loss of depth and ground coverage. The 5.3 is quite good in trash, loses less depth compared to the 9.5 and serves pretty well as a general use coil, especially at parks, fair grounds etc.

I'd have to say the 6X10 is my favorite coil, used most of the time, but I like having the others at hand when conditions warrant their use.
I also have the 12", but find that for most of the hunting I do, I don't need or use the larger coils much. Hope this is helpful.

I bought a 6x10 last year, its a good coil in trash areas but it does not get the depth of the 9.5 stock coil. Personally I like the 9.5 but it is noisier to run.

I love my stock coil also. Many times I will put the 5.3 on when I'm in trashy areas or just need to go over what I've hunted to see what I didn't get. Too many coils spoil the pot. (Lord knows we've got them.) Or maybe that's "too many cooks spoil the broth". HH to all, Nancy

Having the same problem. Been told 6x10 are good also new 10d2 or the 4x6 shooter. I don't have the moo la to get all three so am trying to get the one that will separate "trash" and is good in high mineral area. Am having a heck of a time with 9.5 because of all the noise from both in my area.

Totally understand wojo. That's why I like the little 5.3 coil to separate trash from coins, etc. HH to all, Nancy
