???

You can see it. Look to the top of the wet sand. Look for seaweed and other debris that tip you off to where the tide and the waves were coming up to. It's not rocket science. There isn't any trick to it. You should see a distinct difference in the sand texture when you look at the point where the highest water came and the dry sand that hasn't been touched by water. There's only about 6 hours between tide cycles, so it should be fairly easy to tell.

Thanx Mike...
Since I'm close to the gulf coast do you think this is where a good majority of finds may be since Rita came in last week. probably all detected out by now though eh ???

everyday for the next year we would never get it all. The surf replenishes with not only new targets lost, but others moved around and sand thinned out, enabling us to detect them (hope it happens soon). Ready to purchase that submersible unit yet? Can arrange a meeting for you with my dealer.

It's sometimes a lot less distinct here in San diego but, yea, you can still tell because it's relatively smooth where the water was washing in and out and even thought there's not always a big ridge, you can see where the dry sand was walked on more. Hope that helps.

Well, after the hurricane there is no limit to where you can find stuff. It's likely to be all over the place. If you have any dunes that were washed away, this is the FIRST place to look. You may find some very old coins and stuff. You also should search the high tide line real well. But the other hot spot is in the wet sand, below large "cuts", where there's a drop-off where a lot of beach has been sheared away. Again, you can find some very old stuff because at the base of these cuts, sometimes many feet of sand have been removed. There are goodies under there.

So I should look at the base of the cut at the high end of the beach..not at the waters edge right ??? I dont have a water detector as yet..so when I get down to the coast next week I may have to use my Garrett GTAx1000.. never used it in wet sand, been in dry sand and it finds clad ..never found any good stuff yet ..just clad.

The retail store where I bought my 1000 is gonna give me a good deal on a new Beach Hunter Mark II..probably around $525.00..guess thats a good deal. I'm not gonna be very knowledgeable on how to use this until I get down there and actually hit the beach. Now I'm hyped and ready.....hope I have some good luck when I get down there.

Rick

Normally I would say from the bottom of the cut and down to the water's edge. And when you find the spot where the stuff is, work it.

Sorry to say that as I said before, the Garrett GTA 1000 is dead meat in the wet sand. It will go nuts down there. Doesn't matter if you put in in beach mode. It will do well in the dry sand but not the wet. If you work the high and hard damp sand up high near the cut, you MIGHT be ok.

Beach Hunter Mark II? Are we talking about a Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II? If so and we're talking new $535 is a good deal. Payed between 500-600 for my 3. It is still sanded in right now. Don't expect to set the world on fire. Found 2 ferrous hoops, 1 non-ferrous (nickel) hoop with CZ, 1 childs pewter ring with little red heart stones and .27 last night. Don't plan to post them as they are unimpressive. You need to just get yourself in the pi mode and out of the vlf. That is you're mission. In my opinion there is less to analyze, but much more hard manual labor and skill in manuvering the surf.HH

Yeah....its new. It shocked me when the guy said he remembered me buying my 1000..gosh that was back in 1997.......plus he said he would give me all the freebies that Garrett offers on their website with their price at $599. Anyway, so your saying its a waste to come down there now ??? Are the beaches bare now ??? .....and I was so pumped up to get some sea air....and get some sand between my toes. Have you or your wife hit the dry sand around the cuts yet ??? if not I'm sure some already have. When does the weather there get cold..I can tolerate most cold weather except sleet and rain..If its just cold Im good. Man I wish I wasn't 5 hours away...Guess I could divorce my wife and move to Galveston ...LOL

Rick

Well I'm saying that it is sanded in, but if you put you're coil over the top of a good target and it's shallow enough to detect that you will have a good chance of finding it. When you purchase you're long handled scoop don't let the dealer talk you into anything but stainless or a real heavy duty aluminum 1 like Grave Digger Max uses. Forget the cuts, I don't see anything even remotely interesting like that. Will probably take a spin down the lane today pm. The Gulf Huntress is my girlfriend, not my wife. Don't rush me. She has hunted the cut at the San Luis up by the seawall and it was lame. Hunt during winter in the daytime with wetsuit, but it is still warm enough to hunt in shorts even at night. Come on down. HH

LOL..Sorry bout that..thought you were married. Still deciding on a water detector. cant make it this week ...gotta work overtime ..from the sound of it not much popping up now anyway. eh ???

Tides are running 1.5-2 feet above normal until the passing of the front. Did not hunt last night. Got side tracked shopping at the mall with the Huntress for undisclosed merchandise. Don't fire that silver bullet yet, but get yourself prepared with the equipment that you will need to be effective when the time is right. May give it a whirl after the passing of the front on wednesday pm. May need the wetsuit as temps are due to drop quite a bit.

Sounds like the warm weather has done a 360 down there.... guess I will have to wait i guess till the spring to head down there..eh ?
