2500 - silver ring readings?

swingman

New member
I noticed that silver rings are not listed on the 'target scale', and I assumed that they would read as 'high coin', like with my other discriminating detectors. But I scanned a few, and was very surprised that they read from 6 1/2 -8 1/2 (well below penny-dime). Is this what you guys are finding, or is there a problem with my machine? Thanks.

Silver rings generally are found in the coin area, because of their basic silver content. Now this can also vary, as the oxides build over the silver, ground conditions, depth, masking, % of silver, other metals mixed with silver and so on. Metal detecting isn't an exact science. It doesn't matter which brand you use either. The anticipation of "what should" VS "what did" come out of the ground is what makes metal detecting so appealing.

And it looks like your GTI 2500 is working fine. :)

I agree with John. I have a gold "Dad" ring. It reads right at nickel. So the content in the ring is probably made up mostly of nickel or other with some gold. Just make a mental note of your findings. Your 2500 is working fine.

i have noticed that on most detectors that the smaller rings read way down on the scale.i think your machine is working fine.

On what its mixed with size and amount of silver..Can read from low penny to quarter...If you get one in the nickle range its basically made of nickle and just appears to be made of silver. Your unit is working fine...

Your machine is okay. Shooting rings is a crap shoot due to size, density, composition, halo/no halo, ground conditions, position in ground, etc.

A ring lying flat has a big hole in the middle, which can give a lower , or sometimes even a broken signal. This will be especially true of thinner mens rings.
