2500 problem - anyone else?

It's intermittent, and I don't want 'Garrett repair' to say they "can't find anything wrong".
Batteries are fine, 12" coil, newer model - turn it on and the batt. 'indicator' shows no 'bars', and the detector gives NO rsponse to targets. Then next time machine works fine. This also happened once in the middle of detecting. Battery contacts seem solid. Trying to reproduce this with smaller coil, and can't so far, but I suspect it's not coil-related. Thanks for any comments/help.

Since the 2500 has a digital signal processor, they can act just like a computer and freeze up. If it happens again try removing the batteries with the power on, then turn off and put the batteries back in. If the problem persist then you probably have a problem. As you know intermittent problems are hard to fix.
I have a MXT and had the similar thing happen to me twice in 4 years.

You can't judge the contact points visually, so I suggest you take a pencil with an eraser on the end, and clean each contact point including the battery ends with the eraser. This might clear up the problem. Sometimes the battery holders will also do this. I remedy this by holding the battery pack with batteties inside, and just give it a slight twist. This can correct this situation. Try putting the machine back into the default mode by turning it on, then holding the on button for at least 25 seconds until it beeps and reboots itself. Also, make sure the coil connector is tight in the electronics box. If all else fails, call Garrett.

Hey Just another ideal. Check the voltage of each of the batteries. You may have 1 that is weak. Another thing you can do is when installing batteries rotate them in the holder to make a better conection. Just a ideal.

I would check with Garrett and have them send you out new Battery holders. I sent one of my detectors in and they gave me new battery holders and it works Great.
