2500 mineralization chip upgrade

Over the past year there has been some talk about a chip upgrade for the older model 2500s on this forum and others, some have said they sent thier machine and had the upgrade done. Yesterday, I called the Garrett tech. support number to get the details so I could send my 2500 in for the chip, it's about ten years old with the treasure talk feature. When I asked the person at tech. support about the chip upgrade she said there was no chip upgrade, all they do is turn off treasure talk, I asked her twice more if she was sure and told her I had read about others who had this done and that I thought I read about it in a Garrett news letter, she said she was very sure there was no mineralization chip upgrade. Now I am confused. Does anyone have any advice?

I have read that owers of 2500's that sent in their machine for a tune up got back their machine with no funtioning audio talk. Garrett had said they done this because there was a ploblem with that funtion. I've had a 2500 for more than 5 years and haven't had a ploblem.Not that I use that fuction total. I still like to have it, being the only metal detecter made with a girl inside the detector. They just don't turn it off they replace the card inside that has the electronics. Another thing a chip replacement is not like the old CB'S were you just insert a chip to pick up a selected frequency. Theres another board replacement involved. I sent my 1500 in about six years ago to have a mineralization upgrade. It came back in what I call a little lazy on iron area targets.Unless your having a ploblem with your machine I would just leave it allow . It won't come back as the same machine and yes there was a upgrade as far as I know at least that was what they were saying at the time. ??????
 
I sent my 2500 back in 2008 and got the new chip...worked better in hot groud. Maybe call again and give it another try.
 
I would never sell mine. I bet the ones that lost the Treasure Talk did so because they got a more recent upgrade for the GTI 2500, which does not have the Treasure Talk program in it.
 
Yeah, I had my old 2500 upgraded around '08. They put the mineral chip in and left the Treasure Talk alone.
By the way, the CX3 has Treasure Talk also. It was actually the first one with it. Since '92 I think?
Anyways, I agree that they'll be collectors items some day.:wiggle:
 
I called Garrett back yesterday and spoke with a different rep.he advised my there was an upgrade for my 2500, he gave me all the info. I needed, plus some. I'm not sure what happened with the first rep. maybe she was new, anyway, I will be sending mine in, hope it will help with the hot soil. Thanks for everyones help.
