2500 Help!

Hangar18

New member
Just spent a couple of hours getting to know my new 2500. Question....
I buried three coins in different areas in my yard.(quarter, dime, nickel) I put them down about 4-5 inches. When I go over them in factory preset coin discrimination mode I get a voice reading of "5 B" on every coin. Actually when I go out on my property, almost every reading I get is "5". Why isn't a quarter for example coming up "9" or "9.5" as stated on the display? All I ever get when I zone in on a target is "5".
Help!
I am a beginner and have used the 2500 for aout 7-8 hours total. I'm sick of hearing "5B-5C-5A-" Enough with the 5's already!

When I just wave a quarter, dime, or nickel over the coilinside, I get the correct reading. (9.5, 8, etc)????

Stay away from factory preset. Stay in coin mode for at least 100 hours and set your sensitivity at 6 or 6.5 and leave it there for some time. Cut your threshold down to a very faint hum. Pinpointing with the GTI is tricky and has to be done correctly or all readings suck. It will often ID a quarter as a penny unless you get the coil centered correctly over the target. You can't get sloppy with a GTI. Pay close attention to the signal strength indicator as it will tell you when the target is centered correctly. Scan slow as the GTI has a lot of info to process. Keep your coil at least an inch off the ground and perfectly level from one end of your scan to the other., don't scrub it. When you pinpoint, back the coil all the way off the target, press and hold pinpoint, then move back over the target and center it. Good luck.

Bill.
