2400 not for alot of things you do not need ( This post was moved here from the new CTX 3030 forum where it was posted first)

Sorry but I cant see 2400 when my safari and e trac are great that go as deep as this new one.Who needs a gps built in come everyone says they find things they missed with the e trac no you just did not go over it because the e etrac is an awsome machine just my 2 cents.I just cant see the hype

Yes, this is is the ETRAC forum.

Croaker Smoker stated his loyality for the ETRAC and his Safari, in saying that he didn't believe that it, (the CTX) at $2,400 wasn't worth it to him at this time. A seemingly valid opinion of support for the ETRAC expressed by him in the ETRAC forum.

In the Classifieds, one member is selling both his ETRAC and his EXCALIBUR to purchase a new CTX 3030, because, to that member, the CTX 3030 fullfills his detecting needs. An equally valid opinion.

I guess I fail to see how Croaker Smoker is in the wrong forum, or, should be the subject of ridicule.

Emptyng the penny jar to see if I can come close to picking up an ETRAC at a good price as the early adopters turn in their ETRACS for a CTX 3030. Have no need to be first, or, an early adopter of new technology, or, new machines.

God Bless them all. It makes it easier for some of us to try " New to us" ETRAC's.

Look at all the years of helpful information in these forums awaiting those who purchase ETRACS.

Good luck Nestor I hope you get a great deal on an Etrac there are certainly some good ones out there coming up for sale some even with significant warranty left on them .

Actually croakersmoker and Aaron's post were first posted on the CTX foum but were moved here . I just discovered this by visiting the CTX forum but it's all good everyone got to speak their piece .:beers:

If I had the extra cash laying around I would seriosly consider the CTX. As for features on the machine that seem unnecessary I would simply not use them. Having the ability to see two or more targets at once in a FBS machine is a huge leap forward in technology. The super fast processor in the CTX is very nice. Once the CTX users have gone over areas most all the iron masked goodies will be hard to find. In the mean time the E Trac will have to suffice, smaller coils and iffy signals will be the order of the day.

Yep, put me on the list. If I had the money I would sure give it a try. I always wanted an E-trac though and thanks to a Minelab give away I have one. I think I will take my time and try to learn this machine before I worry about another one. I got to handle the new one at the Chicago event and it felt great. On the other hand, I got my E-trac set up with my pinpointer and it feels great too. These debates have been going on forever and everybody has an opinion. I will admit I bound over to the CTX forum and see how things are going. I also visit the Explorer forum that I enjoyed when I had my Explorer. It is all good. Looks like a great weekend to dig a little. I hope you all get out.

That is what the forums are for , to voice opinions. He showed loyalty to the e-trac and safari, I don't think it deserved a "who cares what you think" comment, but that is just my opinion. As far as the e-trac, I will keep mine as it is an awesome detector. If I thought Marsha wouldn't kill me I would possibly consider a CTX, but I will not lose sleep over not having one. We are all in the MD'ing family and should respect each others opinions.

Not only will those who are moving from an ETRAC to a CTX provide others who want to move up to an ETRAC, an ETRAC at an extremely good price, but the early adopters of the CTX will provide lots of valuable intel on the new CTX.

Years ago, I read on other sites how new owners of ETRAC's were having trouble becoming orientated on it. Many were bemoaning the day that they sold their old XXXXX machine, and some were even going back to their old machine and selling their ETRAC (some sold at bargin basement prices).

I do not believe that it was that the ETRAC that fustrated them, as much as it was their lack of having a vast knowledge base of information on the ETRAC before they bought it, because the ETRAC was new, and in some ways different, espeically if they were coming from a non-Minelab machine to an ETRAC. Not the fault of the ETRAC as it was the "newness" and technological advances of the ETRAC that fustrated them.

I believe it will be so with the CTX 3030. Some of the early adopt ers will fall in love with it instantly, others will "I wish I hadn't got rid of my XXXX." Then, it will all settle down, and information will pour foth from those who purchased a CTX, now, at it's introduction, and over time are learning it, and passing on their experiences and knowledge.

Then, at some point, there will be more adopting the CTX, either from the Minelab platform, or, a non-Minelab system as they read more about those who have experienced positive results with the CTX and they, too, want to get in on it.

Others, who are happy with their Safari, ETRAC, XTERRA, or, EXPLORER series will stay right where they are, and never suffer CTX envy, because they are happy and content with their kmachine and their results with it. They will buy the machines, extra coils, and accessories of those moving to the CTX, thus, making it more easy, finacially, for the sellers to make that CTX move. Hopefully, all will be more happy, all the way around.

Well, as an E-Trac user the last couple of years, I have NOTHING bad to say about it (or for that matter ,my XT 705). My CTX got here last night, played with it a bit, and today...heavy showers! Now, I know its water proof, but digging in the mud will have to wait for another day. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice :)
I just wanted to give the new machine a shot, it is built like a tank, kind of goes together like a modular weapon. I hope to have as much success with the CTX as I did with the ET!
Happy hunting to all!

Im not bassing it I just do not have the need I see it is ok for underwater I pesonaly do not need all of the options .I f other like great for you and I hope it works great for you I just love my machine with the finds I have found and the depth.

I'm waiting for year 2 to get one. Let Minelab work out all the bugs. Kind of like buying a new model car in the first year, to many recalls.

I am hearing they are having problems with the CTX intermittantly shutting off and losing all previous search data. I had one on order and cancelled it today. The waterproof headphones are on backorder, no inline probe option...In the meantime I will let ML sort out the problems.

My gut tells me this new machine is no deeper than our Etracs which to me is a huge selling point.

In the meantime I was out today and found a silver ring! can't complain about that. I am considering a smaller coil for those extra trashy areas we all find ourselves in from time to time. What smaller search coils are being used and why???

I can't hunt in the water period, so the CTX being waterproof is not a selling point to me. Neither is the GPS function. I'd love to try it for the balance and to convenience of the wireless headphones, but I can't in my wildest dreams imagine spending that much money for a hobby. I still feel guilty about the $1500 I've spent for my E-Trac and extra coils. Then again, I always buy used cars. I suppose if I had unlimited cash, I'd get a CTX, but since I don't, I won't.
