23 inches Depth .

I see the air test where the Racer 2 detects in Air at 23 inches , i would guess 18 inches in dry sand on large coin could be got. Awesome depth if you can get the coil over good ground..

"For a coin, No.
For something 'big' like a Mason jar crammed full of silver coins in 'mineralised' soil close to an old house / barn foundation, then maybe?"

I can't imagine why anyone would get excited about the prospect of digging multiple 18" targets - especially for coins.

I'll dig 23" civil war relics all day long...including coins.

I suppose if I found a beach loaded with gold and silver coins I would dig that far but not in turf. :)

that was a fringe signal at 21" i would say it may get a quarter at 12 to 14" in normal ground . just a guess

Air has one variable , emi the ground is packed with all sorts of crazy stuff.to me the last frontier is unmasking trash not depth. Although it is good to have a deep detector rarely do you get the best of both worlds. The little fella on my fors core is incredible just wished it had the tone break like the makro 2. An e trac and a fors core with the dinker are a tough combo to beat

actual depth on sand beaches (fresh water/Great Lakes)is something I aim to find out.

that it is more worth my time to determine a 'Functional' detector, coil, and setting adjustment set-up that works best for the types of sites I search, than to try and 'best guess' some possibly outlandish detection depth in unknown ground conditions on a single coin, that is most likely never going to be close to that depth level anyway.

And without any other interfering souses, be them nearby targets or hot rocks or challenging ground conditions, wecan get an idea of how a detector might perform under ideal conditions.

Then get out detecting while we keep in mind that we just never get to hunt in 'ideal' conditions, so performance will be less than spectacular compared with a good 'air test.'

You are so correct, that we need to deal with real life challenges, and one of the biggest offenders is target masking. Very few detectors made today can rival what we get in performance out of the excellent Nokta and Makro models. My FORS CoRe and Gold+, and Makro Racer, even the Gold Racer, and now the Racer 2, set the mark for currently produced detectors with audio and visual features to try and match.

With the little 4.7X5.2 'OOR' coil mounted or the round 5" coil, these two Double-D's really get the job done when it comes to unmasking desirable targets in nasty iron trash..

And the new Racer 2 sure didn't lose anything in performance with the added features it has.

It airtest crazy deep but yes soil will determine how far it goes...

Im impressed with the airtest it gets in Deep mode for sure...

But keep a clear head...Don't expect it to go that deep on a quarter in the soil...Yet don't expect it to be weak on a Quarter either...

my bliss tool in a state of damage hit a 14 inch deep quarter very nice. I have never found a machine deeper than it . but a 14 inch quarter can be maskedeasaly by a suface small nail that is where the Racer comes in its just super at separation. and like they say in wide open uncluttered spots is where the Deep mode will do best . I found even the bliss tool in trash never got deep , because it just can't find something below trash , - the trash must be removed from the suface 1st
