22 or cap gun

I was hunting the woods with the Vaquero today . Not finding anything . Got a rusty can signal but sounded a little better , so I dug it . At first I thought I had a small 22 caliber revolver because it is really heavy. But after cleaning it I think its probably a toy . What do you think 22 or cap gun ?

i'd say it's an antique firearm with barrel taken off or sawed off. cylinder holes are too big for a 22.

Your right , too big for a 22 . I can slide a 22 shell inside the cylinder , but its not much bigger .

the rust looks like iron to me and not pot metal so I'll guess it's the real deal......?????

Here's the gun . Circa 1870's 1880's Lee Arms Company Red Jacket # 4 .

Yes , 32 . I didnt know what it was when I found it . I assumed a 22 . Its a 32 Rimfire .

I thought maybe it was a cap gun because of the hole on the side that looks like a roll of caps would fit .

Nice find...when I saw the shape of the hand grip I wondered if it were a real gun. Is it too far gone to be restored? Looks like a lot of rust there.
