212 Year Old Silver

I researched an old place that use to be at one time a depot/store/post office in 1876 and around 1883 it got turned into a school. I finally got the go ahead from the owner to detect and I only had a short time to detect before it started raining but I found this an a wheat penny! The silver was down about 9"

I haven't done any research yet but I'm guessing it's a spanish reale if I spelled that right. If anyone knows I would appreciate if you could tell me! Thanks Mike

And it's a 2 Reale :) Not sure how to put a value to it! I do know that Reale's in general aren't worth to much but to me it's just another 1700 era coin.

According to Thomas Kays holed coins were like modern traveller's checks. A traveller would sew or pin several of these coins into the lining or inside of their jacket and use them as needed.

WTG Mike!!!!! You really are lucky to have old enough spots to yeild finds like that. Awesome find and keep up the excellent recoveries you have been posting lately.

When I saw part of the bust I almost fell over but once I seen the back I knew it wasn't an american coin! But was happy anyway!
