We have pretty well been socked in with rain down our way of late, but keeping a close eye on the hourly forecast has worked for getting in a couple of hunts yesterday and today. Probably got five hours in in total.
New year's day morning I trekked out to some older ground and besides several pieces of clad and a few Memorial cents, I managed to get the 11" coil over a 1901 I H cent and a 1916s Barber dime, along with the 2 big mini drops.
This morning between bouts of rain, I recovered 2 more I H's, 1890 and 1897, a toasted Buffalo nickel, a 18d wheat cent and a 1907 Barber dime. One of the I H's was a fortunate recovery. It started out pretty snarky sounding, but occasionally I heard a pretty solid mid tone and a flash of 70-71 readings with a depth reading of 8". I removed about 6" of dirt and got a nasty burp from the dirt. Found it with the pin pointer and it was a rusty piece of something. Before filling in the hole I jabbed the pin pointer down into the hole and received a good solid vibration. From about 1 inch deeper I recovered a nice green I H cent. If one isn't digging those broken tones and low 70's readings when on old ground, some wheats and Indian Head cents are going to be passed up. HH jim tn
