2016 Year End Finds

floodplaindetector

Well-known member
I ended the year with 231 silver coins, (One is not pictured), 91 Indian head pennies, 86 older nickels (Shield/V/Buffalo).
The highlight of my year was finding my first ever Morgan Silver Dollar and going over a 2nd one 2 months later.
Most all of my finds were made at public sites. I only detected 2 private houses this past year.

Here is a breakdown of my finds:

[Coins]

Silver Dollars 2 (1889, 1897)
Half Dollars 1 walking liberty (1940s)
Quarters 15 quarters (1898 oldest)
Nickels 3 shield / 25 Vs / 58 Buffalos. (1867 oldest)
Dimes 1 seated liberty / 35 barber dimes / too many Mercs and Roosevelt dimes to count. (1875 oldest)
Indian Heads 91 (1864 oldest)
Wheat Pennies 800+ (1909 oldest. A couple 1924 Ds were a better year)
2 cent piece 1 1864
Foreign Mid 1700s Chinese Cash Coin, 1855 French 10 Centimes, 2 Early 1900 Canadian large cents, A few Canadian half dimes and dimes to early 1900s and from a few other countries.

[Jewelry]

4 gold rings that I know of. 1913 Inscribed large man's 14 k wedding band, 1940 Gold and sterling class ring.
Numerous Sterling, .925 rings and pendants
Various Religious medals
Large butterfly/dragonfly pin was one of my favorite jewelry finds along with the 1883 FCL Women's Relief Corp Pin

[Relics]

1877 large padlock, Northern Pacific Yellowstone Park Line Luggage Tag,
Dropped Civil War Era 3 ringer bullet, Early 1900s Clothing Store Watch Fob
were some of my favorite relic finds.
1909 William H Taft "Billy Possum" Campaign button was another favorite as well as a larger marine Corp Button

[Tokens]

Various early 1900s merchant tokens, dog tax tokens (back to 1934) were found. Also found was a 1910 boy scout coin and a large 1934 Cyrus McCormick coin.

* Not pictured were a few tootsie toys that I found this past year.

Heck yeah! Congrats. What an awesome amount of finds, & quality too!

Congrats,

How far are you having to drive to find productive sites? Seems that James has already hit most of the public places in the area.

:yikes:
Flood, if all those silver looking coins are indeed silver then you have got to have the record here for the most silver coins found in 1 year!
Maybe even the all time silver record here.
Might want to contact Minelab, maybe they'll use your pics in a sales type promotion. Might even get a CTX out of it!
Congrats on an excellent year.

Man OH Man ................ Minelab should hire you for the poster child of how to use the E-Trac and score !!!!! Nice job, it's so nice to see all your finds you make throughout the year !

Old finds were made 10 - 500 miles from home this year. Vast majority were early morning Sunday 1 day trips. I made a few overnight trips (about 4) for the longer distance hunts.

Thanks much Ironsight and Roadapple. They are absolutely all 90%/35% silver coins on the one screen shot.
I found 363 silver a few years ago and over 300 last year so this year was considerably less as it is getting tougher all the time to nab silver.
This year I made an effort to hit the very old parks with little high tones to raise my Indian head count as I really enjoy finding them (found 91 this year / 42 last year).
It takes a ton of patience to detect sites like that.
Being less than a couple years away from hitting the big 50 detecting is an excellent form of exercise and a good way to stay out of the fridge :)
I want to get into jogging more next year so I probably wont post as much.
I don't think Minelab would want me for a promotion as I would be harping on them to upgrade the Etrac as I consider it the best machine out there.

Thats the exact reason you should contact Minelab.
Minelab apparently ignores all those eTRAC-II threads posted here over the years.
You can speak to them on behalf of most of us here who want to see some eTRAC upgrades starting with the screen glare thing. :super:

Hey Ironsight,
Per your suggestion I sent Minelab Americas Business Development Director an email outlining some of the issues regarding screen display, balance and weight along
with a link to my year end finds.

Here is the email response I received:

Dave,
Thank you for your inquiry and comments. I will be glad to forward to our engineering department. At this time, there are no plans in the near future for a new ETRAC model or replacement.
You are not alone, as we have many loyal ETRAC users throughout the world, so I would not say that there is no chance for an update.

I will definitely make sure your comments are received. Feel free to contact me at any time if you have further questions or comments.

Dave, Congrat's on another GREAT year.

What really impresses me is the amount of Buff's and V's you have found and that has made me try harder to find those older nickels.

Lookin forward to doing a lil MD'ing with you this summer.

Incredible year FPD! Two Morgan's is insane! Impressive as always and I hope you have great luck in the new year!

An outstanding season - a job well done - congrats ! :clapping:

What a year FPD

Great finds I hope 2017 is even better for you.

I can fully understand the work and dedication and time it takes to make that many great finds.

Happy Hunting
