2013 So far.....

Ive been able to get out and do plenty of hunting so far this year. Its been cold, but the ground has been soft. The pics in this first part of this post are of my older coin finds, clad, a pocket watch, and 2 really really really old buttons. The buttons have been dated by their backmarks to the 1830's / 40's period. The earlier one is a flat button. My clad tally so far is $12.37 as of this post. One hole had a nice little spill of 3 bucks in quarters. The pocket watch is marked Made In West Germany. Also, I dont think it hadnt been there all that long because it has zero corosion inside the guts or on the case. I may have it repaired because it had been over wound, but the hands still move and it is a 7 jewel. Might become my lucky hunting time checker. The older coins to date include the following:

Wheats: 1911, 1916, 1935, 1941, 1942, 1942 D, 1944, 1945 (2), 1946, 1950, 1951, 1956 for a total of 13 so far
Indian Heads: 188? (last digit gone), 1887, 1892 for a total of 3 so far
Silver: 1940 Washington, 1946 Roosevelt, A dime of unknown type or date that came out of the same hole as 2 of the indians. Privys are hell on coins., and the best silver so far... a 1772 Spanish 1/2 Real with a Madrid mintmark

Ther have been lots of odds n ends so far this year as well. A total so far of 5 toy cars, 1 toy airplane, 2 toy soldiers from the 1970's, 8 keys (5 of them are the exact same key but from various spots in the field where they came from), a pocketknife, a compact, an early buckle, a colonial style round head hand forged square nail (i like old), a piece of tripple plate flatware that bit the dust, a more modern button, a heart pendant, and a skull n crossbones pendant. My 5 gallon bucket is already full of scrap and I will be starting a new one after this month is up. I fried the motherboard in my Minelab like an idiot, so i bought a Garret Ace 250 and I love it so far. Im digging every signal except iron unless im on my colonial site. There I dig iron for a little part of my hunt. Ya never know what is gonna turn up! Well thats it so far for January and February. Happy hunting all!

You are off to a great start Drew.

What a lot of awesome finds Drew! Way to go!!! We've not been out at all this month since this wonderful Illinois winter weather. I love to see those oldies come out of the ground.

Tell me, how did your Minlab die? I didn't know you could fry it. HH, Nancy

I put it in storage and forgot to remove the batteries. I used it one day for a little bit and it started acting all sorts of funny on me. It shut itself off and wouldnt come back on. I think moisture got into it in storage and the mother board is toast. The tech I spoke with at minelab seems to think thats what it is. I still have yet to send it in for diagnosis since its in illinois and im here. when i come to empty out the last of my storage unit, ill send it in after i get home.

Oh man, that's a bummer. Sorry about that.

You are rollin already...I'm jealous , any day that was close to being unfroze dirt I haven't been able to get out. When you think your going to be back?

I dont have a date set in stone yet, but i will keep u posted so we can do some hunting and hit up the friendly valley. I'd like to try to work it so it falls on the same week as a club meeting. I will keep yall posted and give as much notice as I can.
