2012 Record Smashing Year of 174 indians and 2 Flying Eagles

Well this is the last of my 2012 finds, saved my indians for last!.....This year was just awesome for finding indian pennies, we got basically no winter so I was able to start field hunting in January and hunt all the way thru December. That gave me a couple extra bonus months in the fields. Field sites where old farm houses used to stand are always good for indian pennies. And during the rest of the year I knock doors at old houses, mostly old farms, those are my favorite places to hunt.

Last year I dug 146 indians, so I smashed that record with 174!!!! Also was a real treat to get 2 flying eagles this year, both from field sites, got a 1857 and a 1858. I took a pic of all the fatty indians, a pic of the 1860's indians, and then just piled them all together. A few of my 174 are not in the pic, they were already in coin flips and I did not want to tear them out.

As for my dug indian set, I only need 7 more to have a complete dug set. I was able to knock a couple off my need list this yr, getting down to the real tough ones now. But I feel what I have now is pretty good considering I have almost a complete set in 5 yrs of detecting.

I included a graph to show the years I dug, I got a few "no daters" that I was not able to include on this chart...Hope you enjoy the photos, I sure enjoyed digging all those indians!!!!

Liked the graph. Those 1870s are hard to find. I am also a few dates short of a dug set. Did manage both S mint marks, but have a couple of fatties and some 1870s dates to make a complete set.

Amazing number of Indians. The Flying Eagle cents are cool too.

WOW, what can I say but WOW.

I know you Terry you put in the time on research and the field hunting to be able to find all those sweeeet coins. Those Fatty's an more so the Flying Eagles are very hard to find. :super:

Not even close to 5x as many wheats. My wheat count is just a lil over 600. My silver to wheat ratio was 3.87 wheats to every silver. My wheat to indian ratio was 3.64 wheats to every indian

that's aton of injuns i can't wait to get back out after them. this snow is making me want to take a road trip:twodetecting:

WoW, them flying eagles are very nice finds. I been looking for one for over 40 yrs and still don't have a single one :)

What do most of your Indians come up as for ID? I have only dug one Indian in four years of ETrac ownership and seem to dig deep corroded zincolns when I go for Indians (12-32 to 12-35).

I am going to a spot tomorrow that should be good for Indians, so hopefully I can break this jinx.

Happy New Year to all.

majority of mine are not on the 12 line, most are around 08 or 09-34 to 36

most common indian signal for me is 09-36

Awesome & Incredible! Indians are so fun for me to find because I don't find them often. Is it still a thrill to find one after the hundreds you have found? Congrats on the Flying Eagles and your record breaking year for Indians!

Another killer year Terry - a huge congrats !!! :detecting:
