2010 Begins- Dirty Fingernails and a disappearing "S" in Southern Wisconsin.

Hello all.

Beautiful day here in Southern WI. I drove down to a southern facing hill where the snow has been gone for a couple of days. I probed with my screwdriver and the ground was eminently pokeable. (If I ever manage an all girls rock band I think that would make an excellent name for the lead singer. EP for short.) :clapping:

Anyways headed back to the house and started digging out detecting gear. It had all been cleaned and storage binned a few months ago.

Put the XS together and drove to a house about a block away. Only to realize that I forgot my pouch. Walked back to the house and rummaged about until I found one.

I've hit this house pretty hard with a few barbers and IHs over the years. First coin showed up after about 15 seconds. 1927 Wheatie. I also managed a 1900 and 1909 IH from between the nails. I had found a 1909 S IH about a block away two-three years ago. I could have sworn I saw an S on this one too. (Didn't have my readers). But upon checking when I got home it was not to be. I even shook out my detecting pouch to make sure there wasn't an "S" hiding amongst the dirt. Think I confused the part of the bow that on the wreath that hangs down for an S. Would have made a great start-of-the-year story.

Most of the rest of the ground is still frozen, but the weather looks good and suspect much more will be EP soon. Then it will be a race to do as much as possible before the grass starts to grow.

Still a couple of nice looking IH's

Congrats on the finds. I am just down the road(New Berlin) from you Chris and Going out detecting today never crossed my mind. Way to much snow. Our ground isn't close to being thawed out. I am jealous. PJ

...the last bits of snow are melting fast here in Chicago-land.

That means the best time of the year to detect is upon us!

Saturday I found the best 1866 IH I've ever found so far at a open patch between the snow piles in a park.

I just got my first Seated (1875 dime) for 2010 on Sunday in between the snow piles in a wooded area!

Ya Hoo!
