Here's my latest investment. I already have gold coins (16 of them) from the US, Canada, Mexico, Russia etc all bought with mostly pennies, but with the price of gold shooting up this past year, I have to also include nickels and possibly dimes to pay for this coin. But this year I really wanted to go old. I ended up getting a hammered gold coin from Indonesia from my local coin dealer. My running clad total so far is slightly over $575.00, and this gold coin set me back $150.00 Canadian.

Always love to see the "COIN METAMORPHASIS" John! I kinda do the same thing here, but I just scrap out the gold and silver and buy these doo-dads. Hey, at least we still have something to remember the journey along the way, right? I like it!

Heck it's all the same thing. Turn that dirty cash in poor condition that you otherwise would never have ever found unless you went detecting detecting into something that is a good investment and will always appreciate in value. Silver bars, gold bars, jewellery....it all looks great!

I've been doing that since 1986. I have over 4500 silver eagles that I bought with my finds. Back in 1986, silver was around 3 bucks an ounce and with the clads I found every week, I was able to buy 6 to 10 silver eagles every week. I did not buy every week due to winter hitting until I started going to Florida in the winter. I did buy Eagles with my paycheck but the vast majority were from MD'ing.

It really starts to add up. Those eagles are now selling for around $20 each on E-bay (depending on the year and scarcity) and for what I am paying now ($14 each, if you can find them) I can get maybe 2 a week with clad finds. Still by the time I'm retired, I should have almost 10,000 silver eagles. Even if they retain their value at $20 each, I'll have $200,000 in retirement money. And I'm willing to bet that the way the government is printing money like there is no tomorrow, silver and gold will be way higher than it is today.

Heck, by then I may be a millionaire just from metal detecting if the price of silver goes to $100 an ounce. But probably by then, it will take $500,000 to buy a loaf of bread.

Great way of socking away some valuabes, that just keep on getting more valuable with time. It sure is a great hobby
