2000th topic......I just had to do it.....

I'd gotten a couple emails from folks asking if I had noticed how popular the X-Terra forum is. To be honest, I never really paid much attention to the number of topics or posts. But I know it is always a good time to read the posts and offer comments. After taking a look at the numbers today, I was surprised at just how popular this forum has become. This topic (although it really isn't a topic, per se) marks the 2000th topic on the X-Terra forum. As well, there have been over 12,500 posts made since our beginnings, just a couple years ago. So, congratulations to the X-Terra forum and for all of you who make it the most interesting forum online! HH Randy

when it first came out with the 30 then the 50. I recall many people didn't like it and were selling them in droves...nice to see the turn around. I was impressed with the 50 when it found a bunch of coins after my CZ-70. My biggest problem with an X-terra has been electrical interference around old homes to the point that I couldn't use the machine at multiple sites with different machines at somewhat tame settings with the stock 7.5 Hz 9 inch coil...so I decided to go back to an Explorer since I haven't had that problem with it. The weight, balance, and finds were always good with a nice lock on the target so maybe... someday...HH

But, I'm not sure I would refer to the number of people not liking it as "many". Nor would I say folks were selling them in "droves". From what I've heard, the "resale" statistics on the X-Terra are well below what is considered to be "average" for a new model.

From what I remember, when the X-Terras were first released, one of the biggest complaints was that the lower rod was too long. Minelab responded by introducing a shorter rod. I also remember going through a period of time with several people reporting shut off problems. After all the accusations about bad software or faulty hardware, we learned it was being caused by poor battery connections. Apparently some battery manufacturers don't hold to the same sizing specs as others. But that has now been resolved as well.

As to your interference problems.....Are you talking AC electrical interference or RFI? In either regard, I have to wonder why your Noise Cancel channels won't take care of that? I would also be curious to see if the other frequencies of coils reacted like the 7.5 kHz and where you are able to run your sensitivity? Don't misinterpret me. I don't dispute what you are saying. I'd just like to try and figure out why it is doing that. HH Randy

Ok, maybe I was a little overzealous in my recollection but there was a time before the X-70 that a lot of 30's and 50's resales were readily "available". Regarding the interference- I went up to a local winery where there used to be an old farmhouse. I used two different X-50's, both went quite a bit nuts on this site at times but not all the time. It seemed to cycle like something would kick on at the winery. Another site with a sweet 1882 farmhouse has a larger powerline running in the next yard over. I turned the 50's on and they just went nuts with constant beeps no matter what sensitivity level or channel...boy was I bummed since I already hit it with my CZ-70 with no problem. I was at another old house site near some powerlines up front at my X-terra 70 was never happy either-it had difficulty locking on due to the interference. I wrote on the forum about it when it happened long ago. I'm just surprised that I haven't seen much about it over the years with other users... AC or RFI? The only coils used were the stock 9 inch 7.5 hZ...Frankly I can't remember my X-50 sensitivity settings since I haven't had an X-terra for quite awhile but I would say 16-18 from what I can recall. I still remember your super post about your finds at the old racetrack that got me all fired up for an X-50... Thanks Randy :)

I have owned lots of different brands of detectors and some of my favorite places to detect are under huge 230kv power lines. I have found that the lower the frequency of the machine the worse the interference is. For example the X70 with the 3khz coil can't get within 100 yds before it starts to really act up. With the 7.5khz coil you can get about 50 yds away, but with the 18.75khz coil you can hunt directly under the transmission lines with sensitivity at 30 with no problem. The white's MXT at 14khz are the same way-no problem. The Tesoro Tejon at 17khz is the same-no problem. But fisher 1270. 1266 and my Advantage will go nuts anywhere near these lines. They are all lower frequency machines. I like to hunt with my sensitivity as high as possible and these machines just will not work for me. It looks like any machine above 12khz has no problems. My X70 with the 18.75 is the ticket. I'd like to hear of your experiences with this.

I would like to say congrats on the forum, and thans fo it also. I really do learn a bunch on here, Beale.
