$20 gold coin found:clapping: , but

not by me. Had a club hunt at another pounded park Sunday and the find of a life time was dug up by "ole" Jack. Not sure how long he was there before he dug it up, but leave it to Jack to find the neatest coin. Seems like where ever we have a hunt he always seems to come up with the best coin find or the best jewelery. I know there is a little bit of luck in this hobby, but this guy could step in a pile of dog crap and it would smell like roses. I have never seen a $20 gold coin up close and actually held one, but man that sucker was heavy. He said it was only about 4 inches down and we were digging pull-tabs and memorial pennies at six inches. Go figure!!! I didn't have my camera with me or I would have taken a picture of it. The rain held off till it was almost time to call it a day. A nice silver ring and silver bracelet were found as far as jewelery goes. My buddy Lee got six or seven wheats and a 1903 Indian. Another fellow got a 1906 Indian and all I got was a 42 merc, a key date wheat 1913s, a 1919, 1926, 1939, 1947 and a no date. At least I didn't get skunked and it was a nice hunt or at least it was for one lucky guy. Thanks for looking and GL & HH to everyone.

OMG ! and you didn`t do too bad yourself, Eddie. HH

We have a guy like that that finds silver like he makes it. Luck is something we all have occasionally.... but when they are consistent... i dont think you can call it luck. Those guys got game. B U T a $20 gold piece.... man why not me.

You had a nice hunt Eddie.

I've never seen a $20 gold piece,,,and probably never will....so I'm glad the sight of silver makes me smile:clapping:

Congrats on that silver Eddie:thumbup:
I think I'd feint if I ever found ANY gold coin let alone a $20 piece!
I remember some clown in my area claimed his wife found 2 in one week!.....YEAH RIGHT!!

You still had a good day Eddie...

Next time follow that "lucky" guy around.....maybe it will rub off on you.

I wonder what the odds are of finding a $20 gold coin.....you should ask him...lol ! Sounds a little too lucky if you ask me..ha-ha !

It happens fellas, and yes some folks do seem to have the touch. I know a fella who found fourteen gold coins in one day, of course that was more about being in the right spot.

That's great news. Always love to hear stories of great finds.

Rich

I'm still blown away by that $20 gold coin and just amazed that after all these years and probably hundreds of fellows detecting that park that nobody has found it before now. All I know is that if it would have been me that found it I would have been screaming my head off and you would probably think someone was getting mugged in that park. "Ole" Jack seemed to have very little emotion when he showed me that coin and acted like it was no big deal. Could be that because he finds the neatest stuff all the time that it's just common place for him. Maybe someday we can all be so lucky. LOL. HH everyone and think gold.:clapping:

are starting to climb in value and will only keep climbing in time. Look at the 11-s Wheatie, 2011 Redbook shows G-4 at $47. Just depends on the condition of the coin though since some come out of the ground pretty crusty and some others come out very nicely preserved. Glad you were there to see that $20 Gold Piece. Wonder what it read....must have read close to an Indian Head or Wheat Cent I would think. Anyways, good to see you had a successful hunt and Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you on your next adventure outdoors.

Someone (magicman) posted the digital values in the classroom section, and a $20 gold coin is supposed to read 04-29, so I guess if you're digging silver signals you still have a chance at a $20 gold. Smaller gold hits in the lower ranges.

What year and mintmark was it?

Eddie in Poulsbo I know the feeling of hunting with someone who can step in dog poop and yet the bottom of his shoes smell like roses...lol.
You had a nice day with some good finds too.
