$20,000 Ring alleged

I ran into this diver who did just go nearly blind/blind a couple days ago... poor fellow had mini strokes.
Long story short...he told me about a ring.. Platinum and diamonds lost in a local lake- a large but shallow lake.... 7-8 foot deep.
The well to do lady was throwing rocks in the water and lost her insured ring.
Now the newly blind diver said that the insurance company asked his diver cert/instructor to find the ring.....
According to the story this man went to the spot and dove for it...

Story goes he turned his machine on and it went nuts....the first target he grabbed up in the low vis murk was a hand full of syringes..
Got poked too.
He declined and the insurance had to pay her.


Now I want to find said ring and others in this boy of water but cannot afford to get or transmit a disease...
I know for a fact the bottom is full of drug addict needles.

I do have a stout set of leather boots and a long sand scoop.



Water is just plain nasty too.
any advice?

this would immediately bring up the question to me,, how toxic/dangerous are needles after being in the water that long??? it would appear that a tetnus shot should give you ample protection,, maybe try to find a pair of the S.S. gloves that butchers wear, or the kevlar gloves LEO wear for knife defense. i know,, my greed is coming through here, but, where there is a will, there is a way. good luck, best wishes...

Most of the nasties die pretty fast after being exposed to air and sunlight so your chances of getting sick are slim unless you get pricked by a needle that has live blood in it and it gets into your blood stream. tetanus is always lurking everywhere in the ground, on plant thorns on rusty nails etc.
A friend of mine was pruning her roses one morning and was pricked by a rose thorn and she died less than a week later from tetanus.
How many times do we detectorists scratch around in the ground and bushes without gloves on? Pays to keep your tetanus shots up to date.

Why don't you try dragging it a few times with a magnet first to collect the needles and what ever else is metal? You could do it with a boat if you are only eight foot deep.

I say go for it,,,if you do this underwater detecting often. It just a matter of being careful,,,,you could run into something like this anywhere as you detect,,,but here ,,if story is true,,,there is a great find to be had.
Definitely wear some gloves and heavy boots. And go for it!!!

Story is true.. I need a magnet, and I know for a fact fresh needles are depositted daily/nightly...
Also Widebody is probably right the guy probably came back and did recover it...
You all and my friend and my wife all said dont do it... so I guess I won't.
The water is really bad too it smells and looks kinda like pea soup on some days... i have never seen any swimmers, kayakers tho...

Whoever is dumping medical waste there should be arrested and made to pay for the clean up.

Around here someone noticed medical waste showing up in their dumpster. They pulled out some paperwork and called the clinic that was printed on the header of the page.

They claimed that they were paying a professional disposal company to handle their waste.

It wound up that the company was a sham, they put the money in their pocket, and drove around at night and dumped the waste into any dumpster that wasn't locked.

I'm willing to bet that the same thing is being done at that location.

Well ok then, but the normal meaning of the word is why it should be allowed, we shouldn't have to mess up our post because of the dirty minds of a minority. Almost every word in the English language has a slang double meaning and if we were to take that into account whenever writing something we would not be able to write anything. Normal people will read the post as it was intended and those that knew the other gutter meaning would not be offended anyway.
It is like what happened to the word Gay: It has been destroyed by uneducated gutter talk.

By the way, Prick means Penis,Cock, Dick,Prong, donger and Slug here in Australia but that doesn't stop us from using all of these words in their propper context in every day life.

Some clowns here in Australia want the word Black to be replaced with Rainbow because they think it has racist connotations, so now when we speak about black people or black sheep as in the nursery rhyme Baa Baa Black sheep we have to say bloody Rainbow. Talk about Bull shit.

I wonder what we will have to use to replace Whiteman or Brownman or Redman etc.

[size=large]fisherfinder may be correct. but it's ammazing how many needles are just thrown into bushes and this city lake by addicts. back in the 90's my kids and i would participate in a four county treasure hunt and during these hunts we blundered upon bushes full of needles in the down-town parks. we learned to be very careful in our searches. drug addicts don't care, at the time, about hurting others. and it is very possible some organization could be dumping. proper disposal is costly for them.
in this case i don't think the city is gunna let you dredge with-out proper permits impact statements and epa over-site. but you might be able to land a gov't grant to clean the lake.
although i find that funny, it's probly true. you'd probly do better with a fed grant to study lizard lips.

Glad everbody got a laugh out of it. The more I read what said the more I think I must have been pissed at the time. Still it's fun to break the monotony every now and again.
the clown who reckons we should replace Black with rainbow is a school teacher who thinks young school children should not be exposed to racism at Primary school. The poor sod doesn't realise that those children have not even heard of racism at ages 4,5 & 6 and only find out about it when some stupid adult shoves it down their throat;
It's a bit like drug education; The do gooders (or local Pushers) say tell the little kids about drugs while in Primary school, That way they will know to leave drugs alone later in their teen years?? Maan is that ever BS, All that does is trigger interest and makes them try drugs even earlier than they would have if left uninformed. Drug pushers have never had it so good since drug education was commenced at Primary school level, all that has achieved is to prime the kids to be users at an earlier age..
