2 questions about At Pro settings

Hello the first question is why does the book say press and hold the ground balance button until you hear a minimal audio response then realese it When i dont hear any minimul audio response to auto ground balance?

The second question is what iron disc number is good to set at in general?

Thanks

When you ground balance you do so either manually or automatically. You hold the GND BAL button while pumping the md up and down, one to eight inches from the ground, until you hear little if any tone and then release. Manually you push either the plus or minus symbol on the disc notch button until you get the same result. Either way you will get a tone and make it get lighter until it goes away. If you get no tone the machine is probably already balanced.
Iron disc depends on what you will be hunting. 40 is the max. Some jewelry falls in with iron, so most people will set the disc with at least some iron, around 30 to 35.

Thanks the Auto ground balance on the machine is kinda trippy. Gota get a hang of it as well as the pinpointing wich is also kinda hard but typical of some garretts. thanks

Not sure what you mean by trippy? If this is your first machine I can understand the difficulty in learning the ATP. It's not exactly a beginner machine. The pin point is not difficult though and 95% of the time very accurate. I think you should watch the Garrett and a few other videos on Youtube. They will help you a lot.

Thanks im used to standard round coils so its a bit harder to pinpoint with the At Pro is what i meant by trippy. The atp settings are mildly cunfusing because manny id machines usually have a coin and jewlry mode but not this one. Just a coin mode.

some small gold chains will register down into the iron range, have found some that register 37-40.

Both my ACE 350 and ATP will only start pin pointing when I am swinging over the target from left to right. I assume this is normal. I've never seen anything about this anywhere. Something to be aware of.

What tone do you get for a small gold chain?

Excuse me, when swinging from right to left. It isn't a problem unless it is a faint signal, which often makes it hard to lock onto while pin pointing.

To answer your 1st question - When you don't hear minimal response as book says, do you think the machine is ground balanced already?

To answer your 2nd question - In general to what? What everyone is doing or to my specific site and ground conditions? Is everyone else posting the results I am looking to get? Are those targets I want to recover even at my site? Searching for deep silver or general searching? Trashy areas? Relic/cellar hole/coin/jewelry/salt beach/fresh water hunting (what am I forgetting?) The AT Pro got it covered. What coil are you using? Too many differentials to tell you what your preferences are. Experiment with the settings. Factory reset is a snap. Most user friendly detector I've used.

I've had my AT Pro now for six months. I don't consider myself an expert on this machine, but if I can use it and get the results I'm looking for, why not you? Happy hunting

Set machine to pro zero, iron discrimination to 35, sens to 3 bars from full and rock on. You will find
Most everything just like that.
