Seriously have the worst luck digging. I've scratched 4 out of the last 5 coins now that were silver. Anyway, back the new section again today with a fellow hunter, and I pulled this 1940 Merc. Scratched it of course. Glad it's not a key date. So far, nothing in this area of dirt has had consistent TIDs. This rang in all over, but settled in around 12-41 at about 7".

Not far from the Merc I hit another jumping TID. This time I dig a clad dime with these two kids watching, stand up, re-scan, and then dig down 2-3" more and find a 1942 Washington quarter. Great day, and only had two hours to hunt before the Phillies game. :)

Also, I might add that I've stopped hunting by TIDs and mainly only hunt by ear now. Seems to be a lot better.

Going to have to get you a plastic knife lol.Good finds Ron have you tried the 6 inch coil yet it's got more depth than i thought it would.sube

Might as well get him the whole set, spoon and fork. Never know when you will need them. Great finds! Yeah i am curious about the 6" also.

Ronfin, I have noticed when using the CTX coins on edge and coins colacated with iron/nails are not where they seem when pinpointing. It's like the return signal is bouncing around the iron and the coin is not where it even detects. The latest case of this happened to me friday morning. I was in a spot with an old house I've never found a silver coin when killing it with etrac and v3i. With the ctx I got a mediocre 12-44 signal 2 way hit only. It was showing 7 inches on the screen. I started digging and retrieved 2 nails at different depths right in line where the 12-44 signal was hitting repetitively. Rescanning the hole showed nothing and thought I'd been fooled and going to pinpoint I was getting a target now 4 inches from my original point. Kept on digging and out popped a 64 dime. An inline probe would make coin recovery faster without a doubt when hunting iron patches. I realize sometimes we don't want to dig any wider hole than we have to for lawn care reasons, but in doing so you take a big chance on damaging your coins.
