Went back to the old park/swimming pool site today. Construction crew was finishing up with leveling the ground. Tomorrow they will spread straw and seed. Spent a couple of hours detecting after a 30 minute rain shower. I found another 10 wheaties, oldest 1912D and a 1918. Most of these are coming out of the ground heavily corroded. Initially thought I had 11 but one of them turned out to be a tired and worn out old 1880 Indian head (alas....I've been wanting another indian for some time now and when I finally do find one it is so heavily worn and corroded that it's not even worth taking a picture of). I did end up with two more Mercury dimes, about 8 feet apart. One is a worn 1918, the other a 1945D. Also found a very pretty silver cross that I believe came off of a rosary. It was set with what I believe are 11 little marcasite stones, one is missing but it is still a great find for me. Told my wife that I finally found something that she would like..... The mercs were coming in at 11/42 and bouncing to 11/44-45. Both about 5 inches deep or so. I'm running my etrac with TTF and switching back between manual setting as high as I can get it to run and auto when I hit a decent non-ferrous signal. Most of the time I hunt with a wide open Quick Mask screen and sometimes switch back to a screen with slight discrimination to see if I can get the numbers to settle down on a good signal when I suspect I might be hitting iron falsing. I don't bother bringing most of the trash and pull tabs that I dig home for pictures. Most of that goes in the trash can on my way out of the park. Some bigger chunks of aluminum and copper I keep for recycling sale. This is going to be a good site for some time to come hopefully. So far it's just been me and my buddy detecting. Sooner or later the other dirt fishermen around town will notice that the old pool has been replaced by a big dirt-lot. The park is on a prominent and busy street so I can't believe we've not had more competition already. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I'd like to try and practice digging some deep signals on this lot while I have the chance because I know there has to have been good silvers deposited in the layers of dirt as the crew pushed it around and filled in low spots. I'm really joansing for a seated dime or quarter, or some more 1800's coinage. Am not going to hold out much hope for indians from this site, though, the copper stuff is just coming out in too bad of shape. I do have hopes for the next few weeks in other areas, however. The same construction crew is tearing down a bunch of old houses and leveling the lots in an older section of town here for a future development. They'll be working for at least a month on that stuff so I keep having visions of pockets full of old silver.....lol. Oh and of course...who doesn't like finding nice old marbles!
