Sun finally thawed a small area out in my yard yesterday evening, So I put the 5 inch coil on and took advantage of the temporary warm temps. 42 degrees, dern near started sweating. Well it's ugly but here's my digs.

I have 20 inches of snow and 8 inches of frost to get rid of before I can do any field detecting. For now, just detecting at the Library and some old books. Getting the sites lined up for 2004. HH

Thanks guys,
Tried again for a bit this evening with the big coil, I have had a busting headache since I got up this morning but decided to try it for a bit any way since the ground is still thawed, found a nickel and some more pop tops, The machine acted a little odd today but the ground is soggy wet and there is alot of iron trash in my yard. From the looks of some of the things I have dug I think someone took a tractor apart and left it there. I tried running the gain on +3 in relic mode and my hat is off to you guys that can do this. Well out of curiousity I flipped into coin mode, Twice as smooth even at +3 gain, I am how ever begging to wonder if the mxt is the best machine around iron, I got a beep that showed half bar 50 cent. Sweeping the other way it showed iron, will it was a piece of a rusted can. Then I hit a target showed big item both ways, a pop top, could be the amount of water in the ground I guess. One thing for sure, at this rate in another year or two my yard should be metal free. Not to mention well ARRIATED. Hope some are still able to get out and tect for a bit, well gonna get me some more headache dope and kick back for a while.

That BIG coil. You have to keep in mind that when you cover 14 inches a swath, there is bound to be some junk under it somewhere. Also it is probably more succeptible to RFI as it is one big antenne. May want to go over the area with that 5 incher first to get all those old gold coins before the ground freezes! HH

Went out again this evening and dug some more trash.Found one penny. Found out the big coil does better with a sloww sweep. Still looking for that first silver coin of the year but am begging to doubt if it will be in my yard, my house was built in 1953, The way I figure that was at least 10 years for someone to drop a silver coin here somewhere, I have only found one out in my yard and that was a 1950 dime. Now either I just aint got the coil over it yet or those were some tight butt old people. Anyways I have a very nice collection of poptops if anyone is in the market for any Today I tried cranking the gain to +3 in relic mode and it seemed noisy, well then I turned the disc to 6-7 with the trigger in the center and figured about everything but that silver coin would have a low tone so I was listening for the high tones, guess what, a poptop still has a high tone. Well guess I'm lucky to be digging anything with this wheather, Still alot of snow laying around in alot of places, Guess it's waiting for more.
