2 hours with my new 10 x 14 excelerator coil

Well I was able to get out for about 2 hours with my new 10 x 14 DD excelerator coil for my Ace 250. It is a little weighty but not to bad really. It covers a lot of ground really quickly. The beaches are still pretty dead yet as we have only had a few nice days weather wise and today wasn't one of them. Very overcast and cool today so no one was really out, but I was still able to find more in the 2 hours this afternoon with the excelerator coil than I normally find in 4 hours. Got 83 cents, 2 hot wheels and cleaned up a bunch of foil. I was able to cover MORE ground with the new coil than me and my buddy BOTH covered in the same amount of time, and as a result found more. My arm and shoulder are a little sore but I think that's more because I was on the beach swinging for a total of 8 hours today. 6 AM till Noon then 5PM till 7PM. I do think that pinpoint is a little off with this coil though. It always seems to be about 1" behind center of the coil. That's not to big of a deal though. I'll say this though it's got to be a good coil cause I first tried it in my yard, which I know is full of TONS of stuff, and it was going so nuts with hits that I put the coil over the driveway just to get it to stop. That didn't work though cause it was reading the re bar in the driveway concrete !! Well I will keep everyone who is interested up to date with how the coil does for me in case anyone should be interested in one for themselves.

Oh one last thing, haven't hit the wet sand yet as the tide was high but I will be doing a bit of that tomorrow.

How was the pinpointing on it? and keep track of how deep the finds are for a couple of weeks, wet sand and dry sand.

I am used to the pinpointing being dead center of the coil. This coil was a bit off of that. Everything was one inch back of where I thought it would be. My buddy and I have been over that section of beach many times in the past 2 months and It is clean as far as we can tell. What I found today was all 3" or less. New stuff.

When you pinpoint do you center the target side to side then drag the coil straight back until the instant the signal stops? Your target should be under the front center tip of the coil.

Glad to see you're usin' that 10"x14" Exellerator search coil at the beach. It's really great for that. Regarding pinpointing, it's completely different with a double"D" search coil as opposed to concentric. On a double"D" search coil detection depth is roughly equivalent from toe to heel of search coil. So, pinpointing really won't be dead center like a concentric search coil. Double "D" search coils detection pattern is like a knife edge into the ground from toe to heel. One method is to center your target while pushing the pinpoint button and then drag the search coil towards you(or push it forward, whichever is most comfortable for you)and as soon as the signal stops the target will be directly in front of the tip of the search coil. However, hunting on the wet sand at a salt water beach, you may notice that, due to the mineralization of the salt, when you push the pinpoint button you will get a signal almost anywhere you move the search coil. So, another method of pinpointing is to simply move the search coil from side to side over the target without pushing the pinpoint button and bring the search coil towards you. When the signal stops, the target wil be directly in front of the tip of the search coil. I hope I'm making sense. Here is a link to a field test report by Uncle Willy in Lost Treasure magazine online on the Garrett double"D" search coil. The same principles apply to all double"D" search coils.

Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Keep us posted! Happy Hunting!:)

Gotcha on the pinpoint. Thanks guys. I was out today in an area new to me and was having problems with the pinpointing. I appreciate the info and will use it tomorrow and see how well it works.

Didn't have any luck today in the wet, ripple or otherwise.

I was very happy with the coil in the dry sand. I didn't find much but what I did find was deep and had been there for quite a while considering the corrosion. It seemed as if the area had been searched previously as there was nothing on the surface at all, not even foil. The Ace with the DD was always correct about what the coin was and the depth was right on as well. Nickles, quarters and dimes were coming out that were between 8" and 12". I was happy to find the nickles as I usually don't find many of those. Hopefully that will mean that I wasn't passing any gold. Every once in a while I would get a really nice tone in the coin range but it would only be a one time tone. That's not something that I am used to. Usually if I get a tone in the coin range in the dry sand there is a coin there and the tone repeats. It just seemed to disappear somehow never to be heard from again. I don't know what was setting it off but I wasn't getting a silent iron signal so who knows.

While searching in the wet I had no problems except that there wasn't ANYTHING that sounded like I should dig. I kept the sensitivity around 3 notches and discriminated out the iron. I got a tone here and there but nothing that repeated over and over as I am used to. Usually if I only get a tone every 2-3 passes I don't dig. I check with the pinpoint and it normally turns out to be a large area which I figure is mineralization. I tested with a coin and a gold ring at 3" and had no problems picking them up. While pinpointing in the wet everything was making it sound off but as I came nearer to the coin and ring the tone increased in pitch so I was ok with that.

Resting this evening but will be back at it bright and early in the morning if it doesn't rain.
