2 Hour Sunday Morning Hunt Results in a Walking Liberty

I decided to go out for a couple of hours, before football games started today. I went to the empty lot I hunted last week, using the 11 and 6 inch coils. Today I stayed with the 6 inch coil and was hunting behind where the house stood and toward the property line. I got a nice high tone, and recovered the Tootsie Toy type car. After filling the hole, I got another high tone about 6 inches away. I thought, "Cool, another old toy car". I cut the plug and flipped it over. Then loosened up the dirt around the sides and bottom of the hole. When I loosened the dirt in the bottom, it turned the Walking Liberty half up on edge. Totally unexpected, but a very nice surprise. For the morning hunt, I also recovered two Indian cents, a 1902 and a 1897, along with misc items and some clad. I wish all 2 hour hunts were this good..............HH

Great recoveries! IH cents and WL are great. But I have to be honest, that padlock is the first thing that caught my eye. Its a big one! Any markings on it? Congrats! HH Randy

For a couple of hours that is some good finds. congrats

Thanks for the good words guys...........The lock is a nice old brass lock, but after cleaning it up, I can't find markings of any kind on it. I thought there would be a manufacturer's mark or something, but no.............. This 6" coil is really working for me. I pulled two Indians and a V nickel yesterday at an old small town park, that I know for fact has been pounded by myself and many others. We hadn't been there for 2 years, since the last visit didn't even produce a clad.........HH

Some nice finds Congrats :twodetecting::minelab::cheers:

That is a great mix of finds, congrats! Looks like you had a great time. I really like it when you have a day with a mix of stuff like that. Thanks for sharing and I wish you many more great finds to come. -Marc

If it is the markings will be on the clasp of the lock and not the body of it. The ones I found was marked G.N.R.R (Great Northern Railroad) and after soaking it for a while I found a old RR worker that happen to have a key and was able to open it for me. I Found a Key for one too, but wouldn't work in my lock as It was one for I believe the Norther Pacific and had N.P.D.L which was the Northern Pacific out of Devils Lake ND.
Clean the clasp up good and check it again.

that one is still on my want list,,,, 2 hours WELL SPENT HH!!

Rick(ND), I'm a retired railroader and used to have some antique brass railroad locks. They were just a bit larger than this lock. I still have some brass keys but they are too big to fit in the key opening. The opening is shaped like our old switch key openings. The B&B (Bridge and Building) keys we had didn't have an angle to the openings. I checked the clasp, but will try to clean it up some more. I don't think I have ever seen an old lock with no markings on them at all. Both the Milwaukee and Rock Island railroads went thru this town...................Thanks For the input...........HH
