2 Firsts for the year

HuntinDog

Well-known member
Went out for two quick hunts on the 17th.
The first was at an old church that has has been converted to a Moose Lodge. Not much to hunt mostly paved.
The spring pic if for the frozen East. Don't worry it's on it's way.:bouncy:
I hunted about an hour and found a 1942 Can. Cent and the 1925D Buff. Firsts for this year.:clapping:
Then I went to a Park. There had a been a NEW MD'r there that cut 6" Dia. plugs:veryangry: and didn't clean them up.:nono:
So I was a little nervous that some would see them and think that it was me leaving them, so I only hunted a little over 1/2 hour.
Spent most of the time fixing his plugs!:ranting:
The best part was finding GOLD right next to a cluster of three of his UGLY plugs.:clapping::clap:
All in all it was a great hunt. I just need more time to get out.

What a great story! Thanks for taking the time to fix the holes. People like that shouldn't have a metal detector. People like that make it hard for us. I guess you got paid in full with the ring. Right SRF2112? Very nice ring and I love to see those old nickels come out. Basically, I like to see any nickels coming out of the ground. Thanks for sharing and maybe one of these MONTHS we'll be able to get out and detect. Thanks again and HH, Nancy

Nice hunt .I had same problem here at a park someone digging hole and leaving them and you need a permit to hunt so here are these holes every where and me with a permit so when people go by who do you think they think dug the holes.Had to cover a few.

It appears that you had a very good hunt. I know first hand how you feel about newby's digging large holes and often not even filling them in afterwards...causes the rest of us problems. Thanks for posting this story, I enjoyed it. Kelley (Texas) :)

Gold is always good congrats . And shows your a good person taking care of someones mess probably someone new without much guidance . Congrats on the great hunt and finds .

I hear you Nancy,
Isn't Karma a wonderful thing ? HuntinDog, I'm really glad to hear that you're showing the character of a true detectorist. That's what I've found makes this craft great, the people! Being so new to detecting, myself, I am still working on my recovery techniques in non-sensitive areas until I get them perfected. Digging apprenticeship. Until then I'm staying out of the sodded and manicured areas of the parks. Plenty of other great places to hunt. Again, good job !

Yes I do believe that you have been rewarded for your selfish act of taking care of others. Nice ring

Your reward for filling those 6 inch holes was that ring.
Always someone that'll ruin it for the dedicated detectorist.

Thanks for the replies...
You got to love being able to share.

I was thinking newbie or an inexpensive Wally World detector that doesn't have a good pinpoint mode.
The only plus to the big holes is that we're coming into the growing season and they will grow over.
If this NEWBIE doesn't learn by late spring there will be a lot of dead holes around.

The little ring is only about the size of a dime. I think either a 3 year old birthday ring or 3 year engagement ring.
This was my first solid 14K ring and hopefully the first of many more to come.

Hope I can swing my coil of more Great finds.

I thought maybe the "3" stood for the great Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt. It's still cool and probably someone's pinky ring. Just my though...... HH, Nancy

A 3.....M........W.........or the Golden Arches? That could have been a very versatile ring.........
