2 detectors or one?

I would like to get opinions one more time about a choice I am making on a new detector in April. Right now my eyes are set on a CTX 3030 but I started thinking will this do what I want it to? Will it work for both coin and relic hunting or should I go with an etrac for coins and a f75 or ATPro for relics?
If you had the money would you go with the ctx 3030 or the 2 detector combo?

Not only is the CTX 3030 a great coin machine AND relic hunter, it is also a water/beach machine too.

id go with the 2 peice combo personally. its cheaper and i can vouch for the ATP.

not taking anything away from the ctx, id love to own one, but the atp can cover the water hunting/relic and the etrac(from what ive seen/heard) is no slouch either. if money is not an issue, then go with the ctx, you could always get a decent trade for it im sure in the worst case scenario

the 3030 (and any of the explorers, for that matter) make just fine relic hunting machines. No need to get 2 machines, IMHO.

Go with to detectors.

I would try real hard to find someone close enough that could take you out with a CTX-3030 and have you test it hands on. You might find it does everything you need for YOUR hunting style. I purchased one last summer based on all the excitement and thought it would be a good alternative to an Excal. I soon realized that it was not the best detector choice for MY hunting needs so I took a fair lose, sold it and picked up a different detector. I am in no way saying it is not a great detector, it just was not the right one for MY needs.

What machine are your currently using?

I currently hunt with the Fisher CZ-21 on the beaches and my land machine is a bounty hunter pioneer EX.

If I had the money (actually if I were to start again from scratch), I would buy a good VLF detector for inland use and a PI unit for beaches/real heavy mineralized ground.
For any water work I would get an additional, special water detector like an Excalibur.
If I had a lot of money left over, I would hire someone to dig the holes.
Just joshing.

two detectors or good five for CTX price, fisher75, tekneticT2, Tesoro Tejon,Minelab Explorer or Etrac and milions coils.

It's also nice to have a second unit in case one is in the shop for repair.

Yeah, I'll take a lash at this...Depending upon YOUR hunting style...it would be great to just have one for everything...these detectors are like tools or guns though, each one has its particular strengths in a location or situation..the CTX is waterproof, plenty of power and adjustability, so theoretically it would be a great "one machine" the bummer with just one is when you need a backup or a loaner, its not ideal. I've got a water machine (AtPro)and a land machine, (F70), and a CZ 21 on the way...
Probably no help to you at all, but I hope to have all bases covered during the short hunting year, and don't want the weather or a breakdown to put me out of business.
Really is up to your particular style, the sites you will be hunting, and the targets you are after.

If money is no problem I would get a CTX and an AT Pro. I currently have a CTX, AT Pro, Excalibur 1000 and a Whites MXT. Believe me, I use every one of them. The CTX I can use for anything. I bought it because it gives me the best opportunity to find deep older coins and it is the best built detector on the market, today. I purchased the AT Pro a year and a half ago because it was the best detector on the market for the price, at that time. I still believe it is the best detector on the market at it price and is my CTX backup. It has paid for it's self 4 times. The whites MXT was my first quality detector. I purchased it .3.5 years ago. It has paid for it's self twice and helped me learn this hobby very well. The excalibur I have owned for for a little over a year and it was my beach machine until I got the CTX. I also use the AT for dry sand. I should probably consider selling Excalibur. It only as 10 hours on it.

As you can see it never hurts to have multiple detectors, as long as you use them.

By the way found a 1938 Mercury dime and 2 wheats (1926, 194:geek: with my CTX in about an hour this morning.

Happy Hunting and Thanks for Looking

You will want two, because you always want a backup.

Do you want a screened machine, or knobs and tones? The best knobs and tones machine out there, this is my opinion...lol...is the Sovereign GT. A screen can be added. From the sounds of it, you want a screened machine.

I have only heard good things about the AT pro, or gold. To be honest, I own an Excal II and a GT. If I had the extra cash, I would grab an AT gold or Pro.

If I had lots of extra cash, would get a 3030 in a heartbeat.

I am obviously a Minelab fan.

Is there a place near you where you can rent? Maybe rent one for a week and just try and get a feel for it.

I'd opt for the 2 detector route. And I have concerns about the weight of the CTX when used as an on-land coin and relic machine. At 5.2 pounds it's twice the weight of the other machines you're considering.
