2 Cent Piece and early Indian

Last year I found a spot of woods of about 2 acres that has just produced an amazing assortment of coins including a Seated Half-VF, 2 Seated Quarters VF & XF, 6 large cents including 3 draped busts, 12 Indians, 2 Barber Quarters, Barber Dime, 1891 Canadian Dime, half real, V Nickel, Buffalos, a nice antique sterling ring and a host of other items. I've gone back again and again and although lean, it keeps producing. I've even brought 5 different detector buddies to the site too. After dinner last night I had about an hour before dark and figured as it was close I'd give it another shot. Got out of my car, put the loop down to the ground and got a signal. 1865 Indian 6' from the car. I couldn't believe it. Worked real slow and about 10 minutes later got a kind of iffy hit, but worth digging. Pulled a square nail out of the hole. Checked again and still had a signal. Low and behold I had a 2 cent piece. Last time I found a 2 cent piece was more than 30 years ago. They only made them for 9 years and they didn't circulate much. I'm still amazed.

Holy mackerel, I'm amazed too! I never found a spot quite as good as this one you found. Two cent pieces hold up in the soil very nicely such as the one you have pictured here. In my 40 years of detecting I found three 2 cent pieces, all are green and smooth like yours with no pitting. You found some awesome, awesome silver at this magnificent spot. Hope you get it every coin out.

What a great location and hunting! Big congratulations on all the trophies you pulled out of there! Man! If theres any spot that may hold a gold coin, thats it!:clapping:

Congrats on the 2 cent piece and all the other coins taken from there. This place must have been in use for lot of years, going from large cents all the way up to buffalo nickels. Do you know what used to be here? Sounds like an old picnic grove or a place where they held campmeetings.

There used to be a church right nearby. Interesting no Mercs or Roosies. I don't even think I found any Wheaties. I think the newest coin was an early buffalo. Oldest dated was a 1798 LC. Half real was to worn to see a date.

Doninbrewster Certainly would love a site like that, nice going on all the coins you found there. Got my first two cent piece just 2 weeks ago. (see that at http://www.findmall.com/read.php?91,2084290) If i got to wait another 30 years, dont think id make it. Good Hunts All, CO

How did you find this site? What "told" you this particular spot of woods would be worth checking out? I'm interested in how to find these types of places and the research involved. I live in Nebraska and started metal detecting in 2012; I could learn a lot from people like you (p.s. I have a Mine lab Safari)!
