1st Walking Liberty Half 1917

Well, yesterday I found what I knew was a Walking Liberty half, but it was worn and so crusty from fertilizer that I could not make out the date or even see part of it. One of my hunting buddies Blind Squirrel is a coin expert, Man, he knows his coins and knows how to get to finding out the date. He worked with the coin and finally, he had me look and I could see the 17. It is very hard in the picture to see the 19, but when you are holding the coin, you can turn it to the light and see that also. I was just about to chalk it up as a silver half, but undated. I knew that it had to be between 1916 and 1947 as that was when they were minted. It is always so much better, even with the coin having heavy wear on it to know what the date is.
I am happy to find my first and very happy to have Blind Squirrel to identify my coins.

Nice find, SUPER!! Darn that fertilizer.

Love those walkers!....and barbers........and seated...and...:)great job and thanks ffor sharing! HH..

Thanks Burlbark, Rob and Bradwheat!! Yeah, it is really rough, but it is a Walker. It is also my oldest detected coin so far also.

Worn? yes but it is still a silver half :clapping: Congratulations.

Love Big Silver. Nice Job.

My buddy invited me to hunt a tear out being made by the city. He had gained permission from the contractor to hunt around the foundation before final digging with the excavator. We parked in front of the old house and hunted for a couple hours. I managed some silver dimes, and couple of transportation tokens and a handful of wheaties from the area in front. In fact, I moved my trunk from where it was parked and found a couple of the silver dime in the area that had been beneath the truck. I suggested to my friend to move his car and swing his V3 around the area since the keepers seemed to be concentrated around there.

So he moved his car and within a few minutes he's turned up a beautiful pair of silver halves; a Franklin and Walker. I had to smile at his success, he was beaming from ear to ear.

Again, way to go.

Thanks DirtyRay. We all wish we could rescue coins that are perfect, but that hardly ever happens. I was very happy to find it and will always keep and remember it worn or not.
