1st Vaquero Park hunt

This was my official first time out with the vaquero I bought off a forum member, used it around the house finding junk really. cool thing is while I was out thi morning in this old park I met a townie worker who used to have a Aussie brand detector but sold it for being too complicated and no longer has one but I did tell him about the compadre, but he was cool with this hobby and works for the town of Plymouth and told me about a couple awesome sounding spots for old Colonial Military relics, a few old schools here locally. this is not much of a find I guess compared what some of you find but awesome and fun for me being my 3rd park hunt ever at this spot finding a total of about 12.00 in change here so far in those 3 times (today 1.04). this spot has so much stuff in the ground, this morning's find was from a 10'X30' section only with maybe 2 acres more of property to search,, I posted in another thread someone started asking if anyone every bumped into or knew of other MDer' and I said No but for the record the townie worker who was emptying trash cans said he never once saw anyone there with a detector and only knew of 2 other People who had machines here that they always seen in public areas. earliest coins I got from here so far are 1965.

Congrats on your initial hunt with the "V"! Many more to come and be ready to dig some deep targets!

boy i miss my V i do

Love my Vaq!
Now that it has finally started to rain around here again, and I have found a few older sites to hunt, time to get it back into heavy rotation with my other detectors.

I'll have to make some pics when I get home but yesterday I checked an old abandoned cabin, buddy said that place has been empty since he first looked into those woods almost 35yrs ago.. anyway this place was tough because I was digging everything! in the end I found 5 wheaties, 1 unusual looking coin with a square cut out of the middle and some kind of asian writing. and one pocket knife.. then a bunch of interesting type trash, bullets, ect. the wheaties are all pretty much corroded!! I'm wondering corroded wheaties is going to be the norm here where I live because the soil is agressive I'm not sure.

also, if anyone reads down this far,, I brought the vaq to the beach sunday morning, It was the type of terrain thats all small rocks but not really where the beach folks would hang out. I had a tough time ground balancing the machine over the wet sand and I expected this somehwhat but not that bad,, people said the machine will work over the wet sand but I'm wondering if next time I should turn the sensitivity all the way down and almost Max out the discriminate. I do know it was hitting on rocks and I went max in both directions with the ground blance knob maybe a 1/8th turn at a time, it was a little frustating because your getting a good signal but after a awhile I just got sick of digging so much and finding it was some rock and not a 1600's coin like I hoped,, 8^)
