Bought a Vaquero last week and took it out today to an Indian campsite circa 1865. I've made two previous trips with my Garrett 1500 and have found some nice artifacts. Today I hunted about 3 hrs. and found some round lead bullets, lead splatters, a couple of copper items and numerous square nails and iron. This site you have to dig iron if you want to find iron arrow pts. and gun parts. Oh, almost forgot, I found an Eagle button but lost it before I got home. Since it was my first time using the Vaquero, I wasn't to disappointed in its performance. The items I found, I probably could have found with any detector, but the one big plus with the Vaquero is its weight. Had no arm fatique at all.

If you like the garretts detector you are gonna love the vaquero. I have never seen a detector before that will hit as hard on tiny deep artifacts as the vaquero does.
Ground balance is critical with the vaquero for optimal depth. It loves nickels and gold and does a great job coin hunting also. The fact that it weighs a tad over 2 pounds
makes it easy to hunt all day and not make your arm feel like it is going to fall off. Go back over some of the sites you have hunted with the garretts and you will be amazed at what you missed.
I really doubt that it will do better than the Garrett but I'm hoping it does as well. I've learned to appreciate the target imaging on the 1500, keeps me from digging little pieces of wire. Unfortunately, the detectors weight kills my arm after a couple hours.
I'm not sure how well I had the Vaquero ground balanced today. I'm new to the ground balancing. When I super tuned it though it seemed to do better than the all metal. Also, I was able to use it in both all metal and super tuned disc., underneath power lines with no interference. I think I am really going to like it.

Doing better than the Garrett is not the question the Vaquero will hit tiny targets well over 12 inches if supertuned and searching in a non trashy area if trashy area supertuning is not the useful tool at that point. Comparing the two is apples to Oranges there is a use for both detectors if you are a visual screen watcher then the vaquero is not for you. But if you want to learn its Language and let it tell you when to dig and not to dig it will find the silver and gold as well as Targets that just want to be found.
Thanks guys, I'm really anxious to use it some more. I know, as with any detector, there's a big learning curve. Unfortunately, when I looked out the window this morning, there is about two inches of snow on the ground. Crazy weather this year!
