1st time out with AT Pro

I spent about 3 hours this morning in 2 parks that have been worked over for years with all kinds of detectors. The 1st thing I noticed about the AT Pro and I knew it would happen because I read the on line manual many times was NO THRESHOLD. I have used Whits MXT, DFX, Minelab Excalibur and Explorer and they all had a threshold which I took for granted. For the 1st hour today I must have looked at the control head 20 times to see if it was still working. I guess I didn't miss the threshold until I didn't have one. Other than that and the fact that I have to dig a few more bottle caps before I am comfortable with the tones I really like the AT Pro. :clapping:

Speaking of Threshold...I have never had a machine that had one in the DISC mode like the GTI 2500 does...How is it used, other than just listening to a constant hum in your ears???

HH,

A really small waver in the threshold can be a target at the edge of being detectable. Some say they can hit a target a silent search machine will miss.

When searching for deep targets or tiny targets, you listen for a change with the threshold turned on. that alerts the user to a change in the ground conditions....possibly a target. It is quite common to use this method when searching for areas where tiny gold nuggets exist.

The AT Gold has an adjustable threshold.....the AT Pro does not. A lot of people have purchaced one of each.....the AT Gold for nuggets and the AT Pro for relics and coins.

Normally on a detector with a threshold, the threshold goes silent when the detector discriminates out a target. I use all metal with iron audio. Instead of a threshold going silent you get the low iron tones. Just like the threshold going silent. You might be missing something deeper than can be identified. If I'm in a area known to be really old with fewer targets I might dig them. Just depends on how much digging you want to do.

When I first bought the AT Pro I was surprised it had no threshold. I used a whites XLT for nearly 10 years and usually turned the threshold way down anyways. Sometimes when I use the AT Pro in a pounded park I frequently put my digger near the coil to make sure its still working lol :)
