Have to realize have tried em all. Used the preset mode and kicked the sensitivity up. Sorry to say my best find was an 8 inch 66 quarter. Pinpointed on a dime, remember used a Sov. for a year and it just came back. Loved the flute type
audio, swung for four hours with no problems and surely don't have Popeye arms(who said a Explorer was heavy and weighted badly) Hope to grab a couple of silver coins before the snow flies and will have a long winter to follow the forum and read the books and manual so will come out in the spring swinging(no pun intended) surely a lot of facets to learn, but they will come. Nice unit for sure still not sure if its for a newbie but if you have some experience go for it.

Hi Dan,
Good to see you are trying a Explorer, but it is differnt than the Sovereign thats for sure. I have wanted to wrap mine around a tree more than once as it seems to love rusty nails. I am getting beter with it all the time and has impressed me many of times too. It will take a while, but as you see on the fourm it is worth it with the great finds being posted. If you dont have 8 inch Sunray coil for it i would recomend it as it makes the learnig curve eaiser. In fact i have a extra one I took in on a trade i want to sell as I have one and have a 12 inch Sunray X12 on ordered for my Explorer.
good luck with the Explorer.

I use ferrous tones and don't dig any iron. We don't like iron mask so that is turned off and ferrous tones on and you won't dig any or very little if you do. We love our explorers here in VA.

Jerry,
Just starting to use the Ferrous more and it is helping a bit, but seem to have to run a disc pattern more than my iron mask at a -9. I still dig a few nails as they are so close to a good signal that I have to check them, infact my last IH read more in the iron than it did good, but i had to dig it as i was not sure it was iron and sure am glad I did.
