1st time out whith the MUSKETEER-

I disided to go to an old house site and figured that , now that i had some depth capability i would find a silver coin NOT" after i was done note even one coin did i find but i did manige to find 5 shotgun shells down deep amist the trash PROBLEM some years ago thear whear several out bildings around this old house . theise structures whear burnt and the ash spread around by a bulldozer and now its all nicely mowed grass so I,m getting beeps every whear and the 10" coil was not helping the ground is just peppered whith staples frome the roffing nails from the boards and other large juks of metal I just had to give up on it it would be the equivelent of detecting at a comunity fire pit whear paletts are burned it just gives rapid beeps every 2" thear may be coins under it but i would have to dig all the staples and nails out and i just do not have the time BOO HOO

I think you were part of this thread? Check out crazyman's posts. All of his finds are from iron and trash infested sites. Take some nails, staples, coins, etc. and set them on top of a cardboard box in different configurations, then start fiddling with the settings a bit while noticing what the detector tells you in those different trash/coin configurations. Minelab makes a smaller coil for the Musketeer too, although I have only used the 8". You may want to start out with the Musketeer in less daunting ground, until you figure out what it is telling you.

90% of my hunting is in trashy iron infested ghost town sites and beach areas. First, you need a smaller coil for these type of areas. The 8 inch (7 1/4 inch actually) or better yet the little 5 inch EXcelerator coil. Don't over do your sensitivity and sweep at a snails pace. The Advantage can be swept fast or slow without any depth loss. If your primarily looking for old copper and silver coins crank up your discrimination to knock out the most annoying trash. With the Advantage unlike most detectors you loose very little depth using high discrimination and with the super fast recovery speed target masking with good targets close to discriminated targets is less of an issue as well. Even with the high discrimination there is no mistaking the sound of a good target when you go over one mixed in with all that chirping.

Gunnar i swear i think you are just plain out crazy going into a trashy site with low discrimination! Black line the discriminator on the Advantage Gunnar do like crazyman said dig the silver coins and the older copper coins if you think they are there.Yes i know the Tesoro guy's that are hunting for rings in a school yard run low discrimination.But gunnar if the site is trashed! go in there with the disc black lined and see if you get a old coin!.Then maybe when you get on the outskirts of the site you might can turn down the disc but i would not probably.If you black line the disc on the Advantage 80% of what you hit will be a coin the other 20% will be trash like those large beer and soda caps also items like shotgun shells.Hope you don't give up on the Musketeer,i am becoming as confident with the musketeer as i am with the Tesoro Vaquero and Tejon.Chuck.
