I went back to the area where I found the sterling thimble yesterday and hunted for a little less than 2 hours. Not a lot of targets today, I hunted more in the wide open areas. I did hunt around one old stump, which has brush growing around it. The 1916 merc was a broken signal, but it had the silver sound, and when I turned 90 degrees, it still sounded somewhat good. It actually wasn't that deep, around 6 inches. I'm guessing it was on edge, because silver dimes at 6 inches are usually a stronger signal. I didn't try to remove the dirt on the reverse, waited until I got home, but there was no mintmark. I am close to Philadelphia, so I seldom get any mintmarked silver.
This area has been hunted a lot, so there's not much clad, as you can see. I also found two wheats, 1918 and 1944.
