1st real outing with my Vision!

Yes, I bought this baby VERY gently used and it is an original Vision with the 1.0 firmware. With that said, I did get a little of the "mono-stereo" issue, but it really doesn't bother me that much....I'll send it in for the upgrade when I know I'll not be hunting for a few weeks(if that ever happens!). So I took it out today to my community park that a friend and I have hit HARD with both the XLT and DFX. I was there 2 hrs 7 minutes(I'm an expert on the V now!) and for about 30% of the time I was just fooling around with a lot of settings within the live controls and really not hunting. Nevertheless, I'm impressed, specifically for these reasons:

1. This machine makes finding nickels a LOT easier!
2. Every time I dug a questionable item, I predicted to myself what it would be(tab or nickel, stinky zincy or pre-82 penny, etc) and was correct every time with 1 exception....more on that later!
3. I hear all this stuff about the V being "noisy"......on coin and coin & jewelry I find this completely the opposite....mine was quiet as a mouse....even with the Rx Gain ABOVE the programs default setting.
4. The ground probe feature ROCKS!

What I found was 5 pre '82 cents, 1 zinc(on purpose) 5 nickels(almost unheard of with my XLT) 10 dimes and 12 quarters......yes, all modern, but a lot of them were in the 5-7" range! What I also found was an old silver plated(thought it was solid for a second!) spoon....that was pretty cool. I was fooled when I got a 14vdi along with tall, solid bars on each frequency and a beautiful analyze screen. It turned out to be a small "ball" of foil that was smashed flat and circular.....about the size of a quarter.....I can live with those kind of "gold ring" hits all the time. Again, I didn't expect any silver due to how hard this little park has been hit, but I was impressed on the depth of most of the clad I found. Lastly, one thing I have learned already is pinpointing is a LOT easier with VCO on when using the stock DD coil....I highly recommend you try changing that setting in the coin program...it helps a LOT. That's all for now....hitting some better land this Sat....watch for my report!

I am new at the v3 also and agree with a lot of what you're saying. I wouldn't be without the vco for pinpointing.....I think it should be the default setting for all the programs! The only thing is that if a coin is at an angle I notice that it throws off the pinpointing a bit, but that's true on all the detectors I've used.
