1st opinions of the golden Umax

Got the golden today , started whith air testing . dime good signals to 4.5" in all metal and disqe mode faint at 5.5" then gone love the high tone on the quarter unmistakable ,, now what people get stuck on is when you get other targets 4" and closer you will get the rollig tones not shure what it wants to do so slow down the sweep speed or shang toa 90 digree angle even my m-6 did not do well when targets got close the 5.75 would do wonders for fixing this I like the all metal threshold ..and the cool thing is whith the disc all the way to the left you still hear all the tones and get good depth, the depth on this machine is the same as the silver umax . I used to own a cibola and thear is no doubt the cibola is deeper I,m shure of that the golden in my opinion would be great in the park for coins and jewlwy to depths of 5"and bigger items much deeper my compadre whith the 5.75 is just as deep as the golden so if you think the compadre is a play toy think again I got this machine to put the cleen seep coil on and hith the feilds i bet the 7" widescan would bee good to let me say again if you are in trashy eareas dont think it a bad machine its not . you need a smaller coil now if i was going for deeper coins i would get the vaquero but for the park and stuff in the 4 to 5" zone this is a good detector beep beep

Thats right.

Now what people get stuck on is when you get other targets 4" and closer you will get the rolling tones not shure what it wants to do so slow down the sweep speed or swing to a 90 degree angle.
Wait til you get in the field. I'll bet you'll find you get better separation than you think and those rolling tones will be mostly iron....

I like the all metal threshold ..and the cool thing is with the disc all the way to the left you still hear all the tones and get good depth, the depth on this machine is the same as the silver umax .
Every detector made should have a non-motion all metal mode.
I use the Golden as a relic detector because of that low-disc tone option. I just crank it out as high as I can get the SENS and work the THRESH up till it gets erratic. Depth, that way? Not bad, really. There is a big jump when you get into the boost range. And if you'll recall, the Silver is a 'darling' among those in the know. Not bad lineage.

The Golden, in my opinion, would be great in the park for coins and jewelry to depths of 5"
Don't be too hung up on this testing result, either. I've turned up some surprising depths with the Golden. Like all Tesoro's, it hits well on good, solid targets.

I got this machine to put the cleen seep coil on and hith the feilds i bet the 7" widescan
I had one of those coils when I got my first Golden. I used in on sandy beaches a lot. Covers a lot of ground...

Would be good to let me say again if you are in trashy areas, dont think it a bad machine its not .
I know I sound repetitive, but wait til you get in the field. The Golden will do a better job of separation than testing may indicate. The Ace 250, supposedly a great separation detector, hardly keeps up. In fact, I've put my Ace away in some trashy areas in favor of the Golden with stock coil. And THEN found stuff the Garrett missed.

You like it now? Just wait til you learn to use the notch to full effect.

You must have been air testing your Golden inside and/or getting some kind of interference. After reading your post I took my Golden with the 7 inch Shadow X2 coil and a wooden yardstick outside, put them on a chair away from any metal and air tested a nickel, dime and quarter with it. With disc set to reject iron and the sensitivity maxed, which is how I run it most of the time, it air tested a dime at almost 7.5inches, the nickel an inch father and the quarter a tad over 9. That's just about an inch deeper than the deepest dimes and quarters I've found while using it, and although the signals were real weak there was no problem hearing them with the Timberwolf headphones on.

Looking forward to seeing what you turn up with your Golden when the ground thaws.

1st thing I started MD'ing with a GS 2 brown box unit, how lucky was I.!! and loved those Tesoro's ever since. 2nd If i'm not mistaken the Golden Umax dosen't have a gb so changing coils with out retuning (the gb trim pot?) can cause problems. (something about the windings or resistance ??) If it were me I'd send the unit with the coil you're gonna use the most, I'd suggest the 7 con or better yet the Troy 7. Not too big not too little. Just my observations
