1st of the Year and a New Goal !

Ed (Upstate NY)

On November 13, 1987 I dug my first Indian head cent, dated 1893, with my brand new White's 6000 Di Pro at Swinburne Park in Albany, New York. Today I dug my 945th Indian head, dated 1888, in Lincoln Park in Albany with my trusty Minelab Explorer SE Pro. So I have set a goal to reach #1000 by the anniversary date of my first one (November 13, 2017. So I need to dig 55 more which is a little more than what I average in a year. It gives me some initiative to get out more. Hopefully I'll find a few other nice silvery ones while hunting for Indian head cent #1000.

Hey Charles. Good to hear from you. Weather looks real nice on Monday so maybe I'll head out to the quarry. Thought I fried my Explorer when giving it a cleaning last week. Water got in the control box and the display screen was all screwed up for 3-4 days until it dried out. My settings were all messed up and I though about calling you because I couldn't remember how we set them up initially. Seems to be working better today after I changed a few settings.

Ed,

Congrats on closing in on a big number. I went through my (sometimes erratic) records. Looks like I have a ways to go for 1000 - 638 for my explorer years starting in 2001. I did lots of hunting as a kid but did not keep good records, but am still assuming I'm considerably shy of the 1k mark.

I'm wondering what some of the North Dakota dudes have for totals, I know 300-400 silver a year is typical, not sure on the IH count. I remember talking to a local detectorist many years ago in the main town square park. He said when he first started detecting getting 200 pre-1900 coins out of a 10' x10' square was the norm.

My records do seem to strongly indicate the more often you go detecting the more stuff you find. I've really dwindled off the past few years. I haven't been out this year and the grass is already getting high, fields will be planted soon. Whoops.

So hope you get out a lot and make your goal. I'm guessing getting to 2k will be tricky.

Chris

I'll be happy to get to 1000. If it takes me another 30 years to get to 2000 I'll be 88 years old. Maybe a chance if I stay healthy !!!
