1st Impressions AT pro

Well I got out today for a couple hours. This is my first outing with the AT Pro. My first outing with any Garrett (Pro Pointer excluded). I like the feel of the machine overall. The keypad has a decent layout. I did dig up several shallow Aluminum nails and a couple rusty nails. The tones on Iron are very distinct and the Tone Roll was dead on for the single srcrew cap I dug. I did dig several large metal staples or bent wire that hit pretty high up the scale and were hard to pinpoint, as they soould have been. One piece of an old junk broach, sounded "very digable" from all directions. I do like the tones.

I think I am going to have to practice with the GB some (I am sure I did it right). I rebalanced 4 or 5 times and had readings between 79 and 89, which is inline with the kind of numbers I get with my Xterra. I had an area that was noisy as can be. I also found that in the coins mode I had a lot of very "scratchy" signals in another area, sounded like static and went away in Zero disc. The place I was hunting is a real trash hole with a few cleaner areas

My first impression is that this machine will have a place in my arsenal.

Oh yeah, the headphones sound good but could really use better volume controlls and a 90 degree plug and a slightly longer cord. I hope the waterproof phones are better.

TurnMaster, I got the AT-Pro also got it 4R the water, It has a Quick Recovery , I dont understald Tone Roll????? Mickfin

1st of the video on the Garrett site says the static problem I had can be helped with the Frenquency Shift. Problem solved (I hope).

Mick, I believe that to be the low high low I got when I got that signal from the rusty scrow cap I dug.

So how do you feel it compares to your Explorer SE? Im thinking Im gonna buy a AT after tax season, but I have been eye balling a Explorer or E Trac. Everyone tells me to just buy the etrac, I know better, I dont like the thought of buying a 1500$ coin machine. I can buy the AT and a second coin machine for the difference.. It's just the etrac and explorers look so fun to tinker with..and I do love deep silver.

But I would love to know what you think in comparison. Thanks for your first impressions!

Mike,
At this point I have only used it one time out. It is still pretty cold and miserable here. I had a nice day and the ground was free from snow.

I do not think it was meant to compete with the Exporer or the Etrak. Nor do I think it will. I think it was meant to go against the mid range machines from Minelab, Whites and First Texas. It wil do the job in that regard.

It will take some more time before I can say I perfer it to my 705, but I did not buy it to replace the Xterra. I bought it to do wading and stream hunting, where I really am uncomfterble running the non water machines. I really wanted a lightweight, multi tone and waterproof machine and Garrett came through.

I think anybody running an Xterra will be happy with this one.

I will be suprised if Garretts next machine is not targeted at the Etrak and Explorer. New GMH???
