1st hunt with Vaquero nabs a dogtag!

I've been over my front yard many times with both my MXT and F2, so I figured it was pretty well cleaned out. I had an hour before dark so I figured I could play around with my new machine to get acquainted with it. Man, I forgot how sensitive these units are! I found three 22 shells from 1-6" a rusty nail that got me with it's "halo" and my prize of the night, a WWII dogtag! I'm told it is a series III dogtag from WWII. I am excited to track down the descendants and gather some more history on the fellow that wore this.

looked on www.zabasearch.com and found a Glenn R. Rittenger.....age 86....in Greenville, MI.....and related to: Susie Marie Rittenger &
Diana Lynn Rittenger

Really?! Awesome sandtrout. Thanks for the info. I'll be tracking him down. Didn't happen to have an address or phone # did it?

Man, that is an awesome find for the front yard. Please keep us updated if you are able to get it back to him!

I found a phone number and left a message for him today. Now at 86 he might not even check voice mail, but at least I have a good lead! I'll be working the weekend so not much will happen until probably Tues. or Weds. next week. But I'll update as I can. It will be so cool to return this dogtag....

I finally got a call today from Glenn's son, also named Glenn Rittenger. We are working on a time to meet..

Very Cool!
One spot I hunt regularly has lots of WWII stuff in the ground. I have found 3 dogtags but have had no luck finding the owners.

Glenn Rittenger Jr. showed up at the house today to pick up his father's dog tag and to give some more history about the farm I live on. His father spent the entire war in the Philippines, then came back to the states and became a jeweler. Glenn Sr.'s father was in WWI as a Balloon Coreman and owned the house into his 90's. It was cool to talk to the folks who were living in my house 50 years ago and to get some info about where buildings used to stand. Now I'm on the hunt for a WWI dogtag.....:)

Wow that's awesome. It would be great if you can get that stuff back to him. There are actually a lot of stuff that you can try online. Knowing that you have those names actually takes you to next level of your search. You can also try your luck here and see how far it goes. Searching for people has never been easier these days, we're so luck at this technology age. So excited for the man to see that thing again.

I imagine him and I guess he might have totally forgotten about that. It should bring back thousands of memories at first glance and play like a time machine. LOL.
