1st Hunt with Sand Shark

I got out this morning for 1 1/2 hours for my first hunt with my new Sand Shark. Just got it last night and set it up when I got home from work. Did not find too much, 1 quarter and 2 pennies and hand full of bottle caps, some chunks of iron and a beaver tail. I hunted mostly wet sand and maybe ankle deep, it was a bit rough and I really just wanted to get used to the machine before I venture out any deeper. The tide was going out but still pretty high...

What I learned: I need to get some foot wear, kicking that scoop into the wet sand bare foot is painful.

is your beach full of black sand?

Did you get your 1st PI Test....... Digging 9 scoops deep for a Bobby pin you can't find because it keeps going though your scoop.... installing a earth magnet inside your scoop, will really help on finding the small iron & will save time.

Good luck on your SS

Yes, a PI and getting into the water is a learning experience! Take care of your feet. As Rob notes, a magnet in the scoop is worthwhile!!

Do a search for rare earth magnets. With a quick search I just found 5pcs Round Neodymium Counter Sunk Ring Magnets 20 x 4mm Hole 5mm Rare Earth N50 for about $5 and it says free shipping. That listing is on a well known auction site.

See where you have a fairly flat spot to mount one inside your scoop near the bottom; then make sure the size you pick will fit. Ones with mounting holes do well, but don't over tighten or they can break. They don't like to get banged hard with hard objects either, but hold up pretty well in a scoop.
Cheers,
tvr

If you have an old hard drive, pull it a part, they contain large magnets that are mounted on a peice of metal with some handy holes to attach to your scoop.

Them magnets are freaky strong

I use Diver Boots. They don't come in wide sizes so I have to get them a size large and wear socks so I don't get blisters. They do protect the feet. I been using dive boots since 1992 for water hunting.
I did a quick look for Diver Boot on line and found the one in the picture for $24.95. I usally pay between $20 and $40 and they seem to last 3 or 4 years. The cheapest ones were found at Academy Sports Store.
